3.5 t Vans

From 1 July 2026 onward, all vehicles that weigh over 2.5 tons and which are used for international road transport or cabotage operations must have smart tachograph version 2.

As they will have to be fitted,

  1. Will the drivers have to use them?

2 Will they be subject to tacho rules (drivers hours)?

Just curious.

Already a post further down about it.

If it is the post about New Rules, by JAKEY, that is where my question arises from. If some other post, then please supply a link. Thank You.

This goes back to 2014.

Because light vans have been running around largely uncontrolled, and undercutting the regulated heavier vehicles this meant to help stop that. Am EU minimum wage for drivers too. Dunno what level that will be though?

Yes to both. They should have been adhering to GB Domestic Drivers Hours Regs here in the UK for years, even those driving vans under 3.5 tonnes.

Even though you must record your duty hours how many van drivers have, especially the self employed, and it’s never been enforced unless they’ve been in an accident.

Thanks for the replies. As I said, Just curious.
