2nd week in the job

Well just finished my second week in the job and still very much enjoying it but there’s just a few points/questions I’d like to mention, firstly I don’t like driving in London, I’ve never been through there in a car let alone a lorry and it was definitely an eye opener for me! Secondly is the Dartford tunnel always a couple of hour job to get through at peak times because that’s a ball ache if it is  and finally maybe a touchy subject this one but it’s to do with foreign lorries, now I’m not tarring all of them with the same brush but three times today in the space of half hour they cut in a bit too soon for my liking while overtaking me. Now I’m not saying they should wait until I flash them in or are a good couple of trailer lengths past but bloody hell fire I felt it was far too soon, so much that I had to brake slightly to keep back a bit. Maybe it’s just me being new to the job being a bit of a fairy perhaps

I was same 1st time I drove around london about 18 months ago .used stress me out getting noware fast.

now im probably use to it and just like watching everyone in a rush geting road rage beeping there horns .

can give you few bits advice check tunnels/bridge heights as cant use blackwall unless under 13ft

also check your tacho hours. as once you cross over the m25 parking for a break will be difficult

and beware big brother is watching most junctions have cameras for red lights yellow boxes etc.

apart from that just chill out watch eveyone rushing around

Nobody likes driving in London mate…fact.
Trucks are about as welcome as piles in that hole of crap.

I’ve never had much problem with foreign trucks cutting in tbh, on the contrary in fact I always feel a bit safer if a left ■■■■■■ is overtaking me. Plenty of Brit bellends do it, or at least Brit regd trucks.
My pet hate btw, I have horns sprouting whenever it’s done to me with murderous tendencies. :smiling_imp:

I went through a tunnel think it was the new blackwall tunnel?? That was tight enough! The week previous I got a bit lost in Isleworth and came across a bridge that I was too high for so had to do a seven or eight point turn in the road but better than hitting the bridge I suppose

Agreed mate, very rare to have a left-■■■■■■ do that. Maybe it’s down to so much overcrowding? The amount of UK vehicles I’ve had do this lately is crazy. To be quite honest, I was a Tang before the word was even invented, and I’ve done my share of stupid things, but I’ve only (to my knowledge) pulled in too soon once. Had my licence about 6 months and made a genuine mistake. I can still see the rage and gesticulations from the guy I did it to and I still feel bad about it!

That said, when there’s some clown doing half a K more stuck up your hole, I can see why people want to get out of the way, sad as it is. It’s of its time I think, a few weeks ago I was passing (a surprisingly fast) pair of wide loads on the 74, at night in driving rain. There was a line of Scottish fridges weaving around behind me, giving it the “mon mate, gotta get tae Crick” bit.

They went past me at about 93… Big deal. It’s a fair bit from a real convoy of wired 143’s with real deadlines if you know what I mean

Mate, I was driving a Royal Mail rigid from NW10 to Feltham. I’m from Notting Hill. I still don’t know how I missed Kew Bridge… Hey, at least I didn’t hit it!

Have to admit i was on the North Circular today laughing to myself, did not realise they had turned it into an F1 race event

Was on there myself thinking how clear it was this morning. Park Royal area.
Came back from Hayes at about 6pm, still got through alot quicker than normal.

I made a mistake a few weeks after passing my test. A lorry was merging from a short slip road onto the motorway and i slowed down abit to much to let him on. (Had nowhere to go as cars were passing on right) should of just kept on going but lorry behind wasn’t too happy lol

Sounds more like you being courteous to me

Brake/knock off cruise for a few seconds and shout at them, works for me and keeps me safe.
