29 points on his licence, and still allowed to drive!

bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-mid-wales-25849675

I just think this is grossly unfair.

This guy is a pizza delivery driver, so he is out and about at night driving like an idiot and around with no insurance, yet he is allowed to keep his licence, because (he claims) he can’t make his mortgage payments unless he can continue to do his job.

Why can’t he do a warehouse job, or stacking shelves, or anything that doesn’t need him to drive?

Or does his name tell the story?

Well, I’m pretty sure that there are many firms out there who wouldn’t employ a truck driver who has six points or more for insurance reasons - so who pays our mortgages because our livelihood has been taken away?

But But But that would be against his human rights FFS

There is a taxi driver in this area who has 21 point on his licence he claims hardship for him & family :unamused: :unamused:

He is a manic & I wouldnt get in a cab with him

Every driver in the land should now be going to court and quoting this particular case, there are no exceptional circumstances at all here, we would all be in the mire if we lost our licence, as suggested maybe the name and the impending appeals to an MP or maybe a higher court had a bearing on this case. Who on earth would insure him now? The guy must be a nutter on the road and surely it would be safer for us all if he walked everywhere. I must admit though that taxi’s are the same around here, driven by lunatics with no care to anyone plus I have yet to see a private hire taxi without the driver having a mobile phone stuck to his ear.

Our local news (NW Tonight) reported that a person in Liverpool is currently driving with 45 points! Would cause hardship if they were banned apparently?

Apart from his shocking driving record I would ask what type of mortgage can you get as a pizza delivery driver? It’s hardly the highest paid job, let alone security of employment.

I used to work at a taxi firm with a guy who had 27 points, but he wasn’t a bad driver - at least when I was in the mini-bus with him anyway.

His fines were enormous though, if he got done for speeding for example, his fine would be 500 minimum and into 4 figures if he was more than 10mph over the limit.

As I said though, he never sped or drove like a nutter when I was with him, we’d done quite a few multi-vehicle jobs together and been out together and he was fine.

Possibly just unlucky - we all bend rules now and then.

I think most of his last points were ‘red light cameras’ where they’d change and he didn’t want to slam on or whatever, but I know at least 2 were for speeding which is how I found out the above fines.

This bloke (and the others cited on here) must be laughin` up their sleeves.

they obviously have scant regard for safety and the rules of the road, and should be banned.

If their licences are oh-so important to them, they shouldn`t take the p*** in the first place.

Why disqualify someone?
You get a fine and pay it, Which can be hard enough if the fine is pretty strong.
If someone gets disqualified they could end up on the dole and become a drain on society.
There’s enough layabouts in this country without adding any more.

As for people believing that uninsured drivers are more dangerous than other fully legal drivers, It’s a load of cobblers.
Uninsured drivers generally drive like saints, They don’t want to get a pull.

And i thought driving with no insurance was an automatic ban…but then again, it was announced that carrying a knife would lead to a prison sentence, and that didnt happen either, so Dave better sort out the justice department soon, and go for some good sentencing guidelines.

Minimum 6 points I think

6 points £300 fine is the fixed penalty amount, more if sentenced in court.

+1

I dont believe that for one minute, once those blue lights go on behind the un insured…see how good they are then, not a care in the world…sorry…but if you own a vehicle, it should be taxed, tested, insured…end of.

I agree with truckyboy there, in that, maybe in the old days of cops at the side of the road looking for something to pull, drive anonymously and you’d get away with it.
But not anymore, too many cameras, too many smart computers.

How they drive is irrelevant and though I think you’re probably incorrect in general, it’s illegal anyway. My other half had her car written off by an uninsured driver - that claimed he didn’t realise you had to have insurance! ■■■■■

What about the drain on everyone else’s insurance premiums when the tossers without insurance crash and the claim has to come come from the pot that we all pay in to via our premiums i.e. the M.I.B fund.

The ■■■■■ that aren’t insured don’t pay, but we do, the law abiding ones.

Sorry, but you’re ranting your usual cobblers again!!

Some people with a lot of points and other convictions may buy a car and get it insured in someone elses name because it’s cheaper. The PNC check won’t flag the registration as it being uninsured. But if the driver gets a pull, They’ll find out he isn’t insured. That’s why it sensible to drive like a saint.

These insurance claims that apparantly drive up the cost of everyones policies, They don’t.
The solicitors are on the make and so are the insurance companies.
a £2000 payout to the victim is only a fraction of what the solicitors make, Which would be about £20000 for a claim that size.
If thay stopped paying out so much in legal fees, Then maybe people could afford insurance. This will never happen. The insurance companies would just find another excuse to ramp up your premium.

Rant all you like, motor insurance is one if the biggest scams happening in broad daylight in this country-fact!

I worked for Domino’s a long time ago and when you take into account tips/fuel money it wasn’t too shabby!

Basic rate was £6.20/hr if I remember correctly.
Tips would average between £5 - £30 per night (5 hours), obviously cash in hand.
And I don’t know if they still do it, but I drove my own car and they paid £1 per delivery in cash at the end of each night. I’d usually do 20-30 deliveries per night (£20-30) and it’d only cost me a tenner in petrol!

The most I earnt in a night including wage, tips and fuel money was about £85 for 5 hours. Just knock off the tenner of fuel
