24 Volt Kettle.

I have got a 24 volt kettle that plugs into the ■■■ lighter. It’s a Edco Aqua I Litre and it works very well, but the plug and ■■■ lighter socket get very hot, to the stage of being worrying, anyone got one of these with this problem, and know if it’s normal.

It’s normal for them to get very hot because the normal ■■■ lighter plug an socket is not up to the job (area of contact is too small IMO) I used to hardwire an ordinary type household 3 pin plug an socket for the 10 amps they need. Only the other day in my wee van I totally melted the plug on the end of the element type 12v water heaters you can buy.

Hi John,

Thanks for that raymundo, I will get our fitter to do as you did, and wire a three pin plug in. I had better not try it, as I am to wiring what Cyril Smith was to hang gliding.

I wired mine into the main bus bar under the glove box (fuse box) in the OVLOV I drove for Richard Long but was told by the big mrs boss that it was completely wrong, felt bloody brill when I got the maintenance electrician to tell her it was the right way to wire in accessories.
