Hi all
I’m 23 from Ireland and had all the tests 2 years ago and was working at something else but i had a drive yesterday with a local company and have got a start driving class 1 I’ll be doing three months at home then over to England , I need advice on :
which sat nav to get - I was thinking a snooper 8500 with dab radio , also does it have a built in TV??
which Bluetooth headset to get get for a iPhone 6 plus.
Thanks see you on the road
Paul
Im driving coaches these days, but have always used Google Maps. It takes you right to where you need, you can choose routes, get an overview and use street view and satellite view to judge whether you’ll make that tricky turn or check the height of a bridge.
It’s never let me down.
Don’t waste your time on a bluetooth headset yet. Stick with the iPhone headphones and get something over time if you don’t like it.

Thanks stage driver for the reply
The Snooper does come with a Tv, ideal for nights out, reception depends on the area, hit or miss, move the truck around to get a good reception, sometimes nothing at all.
The satnav has Bluetooth in it by pairing up your mobile so you actually talk to the sat nav while driving.
You can enter up to 16 addresses on it for multiple drops.
Live traffic and road closures warnings.
It covers Adr routing and Adr tunnel diversions.
Enter the trucks dimensions, if going to London, it goes mental with the truck ban routes and timings of the bans, to get round the hissy fit, turn the sat nav off, set to car mode, and when getting near to the drop, turn it back to Lgv mode to avoid the low bridges and weight limits.
Also buy a Truckers atlas with bridge heights to check the routes.

Yea they are expensive but do you not rate the extras like TV Bluetooth etc ? Thanks
I dont rate the navigation software , it makes mistakes
the extras are ok but in general the whole thing is way overpriced

Thanks , it’s very hard to gauge which is the best truck nav about , I researched them last night and searched the topics on here and some guys and girls rate the Tom Tom and the garmin , some like the snooper or the eBay £60-120 truck navs. The thing that swung the snooper for me was the free updates (common I know) , Bluetooth phone, radio and the (big home comfort) TV . But I’m a newbie and hope I made a good purchase thanks

Most people say snooper truckmate is the best but i dont think its good software compared to tomtom
Forget about the Bluetooth on the sat nav, you’ll be constantly repeating yourself or asking who you’re talking to to repeat what they said.
They ain’t great over the engine noise and indicator ticking ect, good in cars not so great in hgvs from my experience due to you “sitting” on the engine.
I needed up getting a £10 headset in the end, just to let you know so the Bluetooth option doesn’t cloud your judgement in the one you buy.

Thanks ckm1981 , yea I ordered the snooper db8500 , mainly I suppose for the TV radio and hoping it will be a decent truck nav , I know it has the Bluetooth function but I think I will buy a headset so I can leave the cab etc and still take calls. I know before people say that’s wasting money/stupid etc but for me the truck nav will be just for nav/radio/TV and the phone separate and simple
Thanks for the all replies guys,
I ordered a snooper db8500 and got a plantonics voyager Bluetooth headset , I will give reviews on each in time to hopefully help the rest of us thanks paul
