have a look on ebay, there are one or two cheaper ones but most seem to be well over a grand.

Had a look on there but they are quite exensive

how about enquiring at the the leeds container base, I`ve seen the “containers for sale sign” there … price ■■

hiya,
I’ll bet there’s a localish haulier who has a buckshee container lying
in their yard who would love to donate/deliver the same to a good
cause like the scouting movement who do so much for the kids of
today and have been doing so for kids since time imemorial I as a
kid enjoyed “being prepared”, good luck in your quest.
thanks harry, long retired.

hiya,
Just a PS to my previous post it would be good publicity for a local
haulier to help such a worthy cause, can just see the headline now
Kindly local haulier “Joe Bloggs” donates an old shipping container to
a worthy cause, the Boy Scout movement appreciate the gesture.

It doesn’t come any cheaper than ebay, an end-of-life 20’ container is worth £1,000 in scrap metal value alone, you would be better off buying a wooden shed, for £600-£700 you could get a local craftsman to build a bespoke unit which would be much more suited to your needs.

hiya,
With respect Harry but a wooden shed in an out of the way location
a la most “scout huts” would be a target for mischevious fingers and
that’s being as polite as possible, whereas a 20 foot box would have
an added element of security and with a bit of clever welding can be
made almost impenetratable, just my chain of thought.

Until some ■■■■■ comes along with his 71/2 tonnes and rips the front doors off.

hiya,
Yes I am with you there it’s the old “if they want to be in they’ll be in”,
but a match won’t do much damage to a steel box but would render a
wooden structure “done for” in a matter of minutes.

You have very good scrap prices or very heavy containers in your part of the world…

Yes, this is true.

Basically, any auction- and ebay is an auction- determines the true value of an item. If every single 20’ shipping container offered on ebay makes £1,000, then it’s fair to say that the minimum value of a shipping container is £1,000.

Try the actual docks themselves. I know Tyne Dock have been known to sell them, I’ve had to move a few for people who’ve bought them and needed to have them lifted / shifted over fences, into yards etc.

Northern Containers Leeds, I enquired about one for a mates football team yesterday and your looking around a grand for something sound and dry that would require painting.

A mate of ours had one in his skip yard a few years ago, after several failed attempts to secure it, had to resort to welding the doors shut and grinding the welds when he wanted to get in!

Theres a previous thread on this, iirc.

Tbh, if you can get an old water tight 20’ for a £1000, you’re doing well.

Brand new “One way - Sale boxes” are fetching £2300 plus…

I’ve seen old heaps for sale, with wriggly tin rooves etc for high hundreds.
If you find a tidy one for less than 1k, grab it.

Bear in mind though if it’s to be sited long term, mice have an uncanny knack at getting in. Usually through the wooden floor. If they’re storing kit thats mouse resistant a standard 20’ will do fine.
Anything less “resistant”, maybe a 20’ reefer, as these are completely rodent proof!

Edit - ■■■■ keyboard. :unamused:

Try Pentalvers at Southampton, they will have contacts for boxes for sale in your area,i bought a 40 footer off them, they arranged the transport to a small lane delivery,it was hassle free.

hiya,
Come on surely there’s someone out there who can help a good cause
I was a scout in my younger days and it’s a really good movement I’m
surprised that no’one has stepped up with an offer of something not way
out of their pocket they are only kept going by the goodness of the folk
who donate, and the adults who give their time for free they won’t have
much in the way of a bank balance to afford the daft prices quoted on here.
thanks harry, long retired.

Try Container lift, they have the crane to deliver boxes anywhere in the UK.

Quick search on ebay, not a million miles away either. Bit pricey though…
