a video of the new fh. look’s a nice piece of kit…
Doesn’t look any different to the current one or am I missing something?
Nice unit there but as above its more or less like mine 750 from 2015. But still good heavyhaul unit.

Does the fifth wheel needs upgrading for heavy haul, as in is it stronger or thicker.
Or us it just the same as the one on every other truck?

It’s got every option, bet it’s a bit lighter than the 1st fh16. Only new thing I could see was map reading stalk light, the interior lighting in the V4 is pants compared to the fh13.
In all honesty…
I’d rather drive my old 2011 DAF105.460 than the 2016 Volvo FH I’m in now, or the 2013 Renault RangeT I was in…
Yes, the gearbox is nice, but that’s about it. The shifter is in the wrong place, steering adjustment is limited, electrics cutting out just as you’re going to tuck in to your tea is annoying and under bunk storage is also limited as it shares the same space as the outside lockers, on both sides…

Yep different, it’s a 3.5 inch kingpin instead of 2 inch

as above. years ago when I done hh you could buy a collar that would fit over the 2" to make it 3.5"dont know if that is still done.

Standard trailers usually use a 2 inch king pin whereas the heavy haulage guy’s use a 3.5 inch king pin with fifth wheels to suit.
You can get an adaptor that lets you use a heavy haul truck with the larger firth wheel to pull a standard trailer.

It’s exactly the same as my 2017 one and my 2015 one had the map reading lights so they aren’t new. The electrics cutting out can be changed by volvo. Both of mine did it when new but volvo can plug it in and change the settings. It’s really annoying for tramping

It’s got every option
It most definately does not have every option
no side view cameras
no middle curtains inside the cab
no adaptive cruise control
no table on the fridge , drawer
and thats just what I noticed after a quick watch
but I’d still have it . lol

Possibly…
The muckiest job I ever did as a trailer boy on heavy haulage. Getting under an ordinary king pin and putting the collar that was covered in grease on.
Other mucky jobs included crawling under cranes with a 35 ton jack and jacking the block up, building ramps with railway sleepers and emptying out both ashtrays on a Friday.
