2014! A new start

This is my update for all you guys out there, Think the last time i posted on here was when i failed my 2nd test last year.
I had my 3rd attempt at the start of December but yet again i didn’t make the cut. In fact I did worse than my previous 2 tests in Leicester… However I nailed the reverse first time perfect , no shunt or getting out to look. Big improvement considering I failed my first two tests on this amongst other things. And i wasn’t happy about a few other things with the place I was training at but i am not going to start slagging off about it.

So! Its a new year now and like the thread title a new start, I decided to go closer to home and try out Northampton Town, Much closer and not a city. I had an assessment drive with LGV Trainers yesterday in a DAF 65 with a brand new 4 over 4 box. To my surprise i never trained with this type of box , I had learnt to drive in a 6 splitter.

Now i can say I handled the gears and truck PERFECT! I couldn’t believe that i drove it much more easily than the Mercedes i spent weeks learning in. The whole experience just felt right for me.

The instructor ( Andy) that took me out was a really nice bloke, quietly spoken and made me feel at ease the whole time. At the end of the drive he told me that all i need is 2-3 days and this mainly to cover the test routes and getting used to reversing in this wagon for the test.

Really pleased and think i’ll be going with them for sure, don’t get me wrong I’m grateful for the other company that trained me in everything else but i believe 3 times failing something has to change as it is getting expensive now just for a Category C entitlement. 2K so far!

So new place closer to home , Different wagon which is better to drive and started taking anti anxiety tablets , surely this will help get me through it

When i first started out i knew it wasn’t going to be easy and a lot of times i wanted to jack it all in but with passing all tests including the CPC2 + 4 and just one more to go ( Practical) im hell bent. IM GONNA DO THIS!!! :sunglasses:

Good on you RubberDucky sounds like you had a crappy time of it last year but looking like this year will do it for you. Good luck with the new training and test.

Good positive post there.

You will look back sometime in the not too distant future and wonder what all the fuss was about. I certainly found driving a decent truck made all the difference. So, different truck, different attitude, what can go wrong?
Go get it.

All the best for this attempt. I spend a lot of time explaining that not all training and vehicles are the same standard. I’m pleased you’ve discovered that and you’re happy with the set up.

Look forward to reading updates, Pete

Great start to 2014 for you, good luck with the new bods! Having the right trainer makes a HUGE difference as I have learnt myself and observed more than once.
