20 hours = full time?

Called about a job today offering full time permanent employment , after a brief chat where it was stated that the hours are a minimum of 20 and increased if needs be, 4 hours a day split between two drivers , morning and afternoons, hours are increased if cover for an absent driver is required , since when has 20 hours been full time ?..

I guess they take it from the benefit system, when you work 16 hours or more, you loose your benefit, so maybe they think that way?? you never know

 who was it? i’ll ring them for a laugh.

Fulltime is counted by 30 hour and above.
Till 29 Hour 59 Minutes is it Part time

They are just covering their arse.
If they are busy, you will do the hours they want, but when they are quiet they can drop you to 20 hrs. Bargepole job.

maybe where you come from immigrant

Definition: There are no legal guidelines that determine whether or not an employee is a part time or full time employee. A determination of whether an employee is working part time depends on the company’s policy and practice of defining employees and the hours required to be considered full time

cloud cuckoo land.

Apparently a lot of retail shops are doing this. 20 hours a week with extra hours as and when at the same flat rate.

The employer can get workers at minimum wage and the workers can claim all the family benefits.

When I worked for the NHS the hospital cleaning contract was outsourced. All the cleaners were put on 20 hours = 5 x 4 hour shifts. The raesoning then was that most people do most of their work in the first four hours anyway; and on a four hour shift they didn’t have to allow any breaks. many af them ended up doing seven or eight shifts anyway - but that meant no paid breaks and no overtime rate.

just wondering also if the job on offer was as a result of the present driver needing to reduce his/her hours owing to domestic reasons and the job offered was in fact a “job share”.
In which case the employer is to be congratulated on taking such a bold step to look after his present employee.

The job was being advertised by building supplies merchant , who you can trust because its got their name on it!..

DICKS?

Who wants to pay to go to work?

4 hours @ £8ph less tax, NI, fuel & WASTED TIME GETTING THERE means you’ll not only not make a profit, but have to pay for it on top!

4 hour a day jobs are for people who live in a hut on the yard, or across the road in one of those converted 3 bedroomed houses as favoured by ■■■■■ builders. :grimacing:
