2 year experience thing!

Just thinking about interviews with either agencies or operators and they bring up the 2 year experience issue. I will hopefully achieve C+E (and adr hopefully) soon so in angency or operator eyes I won’t have experience. But… I’ve been a coach driver (have a go if you like) since 1999 and driven all over Europe and I would say that I have some relevent experience. So my question is…how would I put this across in an interview? Any thoughts would be greatfully received.

Make sure that you tell them what categories you have on your licence & the experience that you have it may help a little but not always you may have to be a little economical with the truth & try to expand

It will help with a good CV that shows all of this

As when I went to some agency I had driven 7.5t for a long time this did help a little especially with driving vans & up to 7.5 t but when it can to Cat C it was a bi harder

Funny you mention the cv animal that’s what I’m doing now! I’ll sell myself the best I can. I done 7.5t multi-drop but it was many moons ago, before doing coaches and.know it’ll be different now!

Alot of agencies will ask for 2 years exp as do alot of companies, but i wouldn’t worry too much about that. I came from an accounts background before i started to drive so unlike you driving coaches etc i was greener than green. But i did get my chance from an agency with a company, then after i got a lot more work from them. It does happen, so don’t worry about rejections you might get. Plus they say 10 - 15 people apply for each post there is going at the moment (not just driving). Just be positive and honest about your experiance.

More proof that people give you a chance is that after 2 years on rigids doing all sorts of work i decided to use my saved pennies to get my C + E, that was only in oct and i haven’t used it since but i explained this at an interview and about how enthusiastic i was to move up to artics and even with no experiance on them i now have a perm job driving them starting tomorrow morning.

For anyone worried about the experiance or lack of, don’t. Just keep plugging and sending off the cv’s. Companies are run by people and i guarntee each of them were given their chance at some stage. It does and will happen

Cheers mate .

You’ll be fine mate, as you said you’ve been driving coaches so have experiance in driving vehicles of that size and you also do have multi drop experiance in a 7.5. Highlighting those in any class 2 interview will be a big plus. So selling yourself should be pretty easy. Best of luck mate.

Hi there k21pilot!

Just like to also say ‘Good Luck’ on the job front mate.

It has been said before, it isn’t easy, but then again if you have the right attitude it is not impossible either! :sunglasses:

When I called up for a new job, the guy on the phone wasn’t interested one bit how much rigid experience I had, only how much artic.
