Hate both.
Not upto the public to police the roads, I don’t agree that you were speeding, but your licence and your risk
There was no first question
Midas seems reliable so that’ll be a good idea and surely we don’t need unreliable fog warning signs as most folks ignore them because they’re usually on when it’s not foggy and I think most of can see fog when approaching it.
A matrix unless on a managed road /motorway are only ADVISORY so Jo Public should mind his own.
As for MIDAS it’s only as good as the operator … as its use is regulated by the traffic flow.
and as BB said why have something flashing when you can see it …be better if they put up ICE
I dont think the midas has any benefit. As soon as the signs light up it starts a chain reaction of brake lights with each car progressively braking harder until the speed reduces even further. Because the traffic speed drops, (correct me if in wrong please BJ) the midas detects this and reduces the displayed speed even further compunding the effect.
It would be interesting to do an experiment and disable the midas system one friday on the M25 between 8-16 and see if the traffic flow improves or worsens. I’d be willing to bet £10 it improves.

No, and it will be a lose lose situation for me because if theres no traffic then I wont get the overtime either so - £10 down and no overtime but it’d prove my point.
May not be totally related to the OP’s original questions but what happened to driving to the prevailing road conditions?

Question…is the fact that it’s Taunton in anyway connected to that horrific accident on the M5 that was blamed on the bonfire smoke drifting onto the carriageway?
Big Jase:
its just ironic that we set them to warn others of a danger ahead yet they feel the need to tell me that signs that I have had set I am ignoring.
BJ, I know that you or your collegues set them, you obviously know that you or your collegues set them, but you can’t expect Mr very average to know that. This is probably the same fella who has spent the last 10 years or so jumping on his brakes every time he sees one of your vehicles and has had it recently pointed out to him that you are not in fact police officers!
Big Jase:
we pass at 70 on route to debris and a guy in a car we overtook in pure disgust frantically pointing at his speedo as he is doing 50. Obviously not happy that we are “Speeding” but we were going to a job.
You just admitted here in public what utter disregard you have for the RTA. That guy you overtook was spot on and better versed in the Road Traffic act 1984 and the section 19 exemption of 2006.
You muppets aren’t allowed to speed, ever!!! You must obtain each and every posted speed limit, even those in roadworks and those on Matrixes.
Your speed limit on hard shoulders is 20mph. The only exemption you guys have is running on the hard shoulder and crossing solid and some hashed lines.
You may want to spend a bit more time familiarising yourself with the road traffic act and with internal documentation issued by the Highway Agency, especially the lates document available on your intranet regarding “driving on HA business” and a little less time taking the moral high ground here all the times.
And you really wonder why nobody here takes you seriously■■? I seriously hope that guy you passed took down your reg number and called your line manager and reported you.
You guys are just failed police officers who couldn’t make the grade and need to boost your ego driving around in yellow marked HA vehicles playing coppers.
Get real and get a life.
Where’s Debris ?
Is it near Trashington ?
Nah! Debri is the way they pronounce Deborah in the West Country.
He was on his way to some bird’s house

What total [zb] you drivel out of your mouth. It is an ADVISORY sign, no one has to obey it as it isn’t in a Red ring. I suggest you get your facts right before you come on here and try and discredit me. I hope he did report me, then he will be corrected that we are allowed to do it. Do you really think the HA would allow us to knowingly speed?I am certainly not a failed copper, never wanted to deal with all the crap. I wanted to help and that’s what I do. The sooner you dumb [zb] realise we are here to help, the sooner we can all get along.
Anyway, its pretty rich a truck driver telling ME I am breaking the law yet EVERY SINGLE truck ignored ALL of our signs today for a lane closure and regularly barrel through MANDATORY 50 roadworks or do 56 on a 40 A road, many of you are a disgrace to your profession so before you start ■■■■■■■■ about what I can and can’t do, sort your own house out of so called professional drivers. What a joke. Got get those crisps through at all costs, [zb] road safety and [zb] my licence and the chance of points at best, killing someone at worse.
Oh and I have a fantastic life thanks, being paid for by you and all your pals, the ones that hate me and my colleagues.
Big Jase …You just lost all cred with the insults fella
BJ you have dug a hole for yourself here, 70 in a 50 is all joe public will see.
You should lead by example and the irony and hypocrousy of this is not lost on any of us.
By ignoring your own sign others will follow and like the fog sign that cries wolf this makes a mockery of what the HA is trying to do with these signs. Folks will lose what little faith they have in them if they see you ignoring them.
That said hopefully debris was cleared and everyone is safe, or where you just rushing for a tea break.

.
Though a lot off what you describe above is unfortunately true, and does reflect badly on our industry, I’m not sure that to slag off Truckers on what is (clue in the title) a Truckers forum, is not perhaps the best way to win friends, just a thought
I must admit that I’ve allways had time for the work the Wombles do, and though some off their action seem a bit over kill, I do understand the reasons behind them .
But to be honest, I’m not feeling the love tonight . Though as with transport, there will allways be bad apples, even in Hi-vis jackets
