Been offered a job with maritime out of southampton tramping (we all know the work and pay and truck specs etc)
Also a job for a small specialist transport (6 trucks) company driving a volvo FM globetrotter (no fridge) wag and drag with 50t hiab delivering 20ft containers here there everywhere, they guarantee to be home by 4pm every Friday and start at 6am on a Monday 3-4 nights out a week , pay is 10.50 for 40 hrs then 12.50 thereafter 26 a night out… also you run the truck yourself as the office is based up north…
so pros and cons please also I’ve never lived in an fM they look too cramped? and what would you guys do regarding comfort and working all wethers…
I did cabin work for Rhodes years ago and lived it no hiab tho just a high lift jack varied work and get places you won’t go with boxes.
My choice would be the cabins.

Which do think you will prefer, which pays the most, which will be less hassle etc.
As above 2nd one sounds o.k. Early finish on the Fri (if all goes well) weekends off. Prob just left to get on with the job when your running the truck.
Think i would be eering on the cabins side of things , may be more hassle sometimes , but it will be darn sight more interesting and challenging than dragging boxes up and down the motorway…
Ok so the second job pays more and the other drivers I spoke to said they have never worked a weekend and they have both been there 11 years , yes you get sent your work on a Sunday for the mon tue and wed no times just work as long or as less as you like its kinda upto you how many hours a day you want todo.
what puts me off is no fridge and it’s a volvo fm globetrotter so very small to sort yourself out when you been in the wet and cold… also it’s wag and drag!!!

thanks for the replays so far guys
ah well better not take it if that’s your ego worrier of what you will wont drive being knocked …

Think you will find an fm plenty big enough.
Think the op has already made their own mind up.FM Globetrotter not really H/Spec enough is it. I mean no fridge!! Which one would the op choose if Maritine were running Wendy Houses?
I’ve only ever done 5 nights in an FM but seemed big enough to me. As for the wag n drag, can’t really comment as never driven one but I’m sure you’ll get used to it. And if you’re that bothered about having a fridge go and bloody buy one. The extra money on the second job should easily cover the cost after your first week.
There’s no contest is there, plan your own job, better money, home by 4pm on a Friday and no weekends.
How do you think the transporter lads manage in cut down FMs, money takes priority, you can’t spend or eat a bloody big cab…though arguably you could eat whats in the fridge…
Wag & drag you’ll soon get used too, there easy to drive. The jobs a no brainer really if you are guaranteed weekends off with a 4 pm finish, happy days.
Why have you asked the question? Is it because you want to drive the ‘big flashy motor’ or to rub it in that you’ve got a decent job offer?
Also, I was in Alconbury last week and a 14 plate Maritime truck pulled up, and it was ONLY an MAN XLX I said “who’ve you ■■■■■■ off that you don’t get an XXL?” but apparently there’s not much difference in size so that’s what they’re getting now… Personally, I like the subwoofer in the XXL.
Not much difference in size between an XXL and an XLX, how long before there’s not much difference between an FH Globetrotter and an FM??
GO WITH THE MONEY.
As for a fridge, on the extra earnings, you could afford to eat out everyday
No contest to me, cabins more interesting/challenging, weekends off, left to get the job done. Get you’re own microwave, fridge etc then just take them with you if you change units/jobs
No fridge? Well that would be the deal breaker for me… … you know what you want. Shiny new truck and lazy mans’ job, why are you asking us? I’ll tell you what you do. Post the details of the W&D job then stand back in case you get killed in the rush!
