2 bits of advice needed please

Hello people, Sorry to bother you guys but I have had a look through the internet and advice is slightly confusing.

  1. I am moving in the next week and I obviously need to send my licence away to get my new address put onto it. Do I have to send off my tacho and cpc card aswell?

  2. I now need glasses,My eye sight is not that bad but long distances I need it. I spoke to the optician and she said that my eyesight is not bad at all but for concentrating and long distances.

Do I need to contact the DVLA?

Any help will be much appreciated thanks in advance Thomas

No need to send off your tacho or CPC card.

gov.uk/driving-eyesight-rules - Looks like if you’re getting glasses just for long/short sightedness you don’t need to but you must wear them if you need to when driving.

General consensus on here seems to be that unless absolutely necessary, don`t volunteer any more info than you have to. As regards your wearing of glasses, the powers that be love to make more of these things than is reasonable, and many have lived to regret their minor disclosures.

Thankyou so much that has taken a lot of worry off my mind.
Thanks again Thomas

Thankyou I appreciate that. My eyesight is not bad at all even the optician said that it was not bad at all.
Thanks again

You think the advice on the internet is confusing then you just wait till this thread reaches 3-4 pages of guys all saying different things and all claiming to be right!

I dont understand how the DVLA managed to construct such a poor website . and the phone is worse .

I ended up driving to swansea , and was all fixed in 5 mins .

If your cpc and digi tacho have your address on them , they will issue new ones without , so in future you only need to update address on licence card .

Not sure how true but it was always said if you need glasses to drive you must carry a spare pair .
Like I said not sure how true this is .

Legally you don’t have to carry a spare pair of glasses in the UK, but if you break your glasses you can’t legally drive so carrying a spare pair is the sensible thing to do.

I believe it may be compulsory to carry a spare pair of glasses in some other countries but I’m not sure.

Change of Address can you do Online. DVLA will send ya a new License and tellin you to cut the old in half and send to them.
About Medical Condition i report it as they may find out. But Eyesight needs to decide the Optitian if you need Glasses or not, doesnt matter if your Eyes are good or Bad.
There is a Medical Form to download and give it to your Optitian. Then send it to DVLA,…with New Adress on it.
Think thats enough till you do your 5 Yearly Medical Test to renew HGV License.

My digi card has my address on it ■■?

yes it does but when i sent my driving licence away for an address change at the beginning of the year it came back with the new address on it accompanied by a new cpc card and a new tacho card… i just cut the old ones up…

chew the corner off the envelope you send your old stuff to dvla in…put in your letter telling them your enclosing your chopped up licence etc.then send the envelope recorded, whilst keeping your original licence etc…you never know whats round the corner …highly illegal of course, but your dealing with her majestys government…

my licence was up for renewal this year, and the form did state that if you are enclosing the old licence or not, and asked for a reason. I kept my old licence, received my new one, and still got my old one.
With regard to glasses, because i renew every year, my eysight is good except for distances, but it is registered on my licence with a code, so i always have to carry them with me.

I think i see a flaw in your cunning plan. Surely the postal peeps would not accept a damaged envelope for recorded delivery?
