Were these years quite bad / recession i can only think of a few g and h reg lorries from back then, and on the show scene today many many f regs 88/89 then a gap before some j and k start to appear,or is it just me?
Regarding our quarry (Ballidon) Dan several lads bought new Cargo’s in 1989 and my last gaffer bought an F reg Foden brand new, but after that (apart from the odd one) they stuck with them then for many years. One Cargo was still with the original owner twenty years later. Even TILCON itself went from changing lorries every six years to keeping them for double that in some cases, I had the last new Foden they purchased in May 1986 and kept it until November 1996. Something obviously happened around those years, wether work just dropped off or not I don’t know but very little money was spent on new tackle!
Pete.
Walkers actually had a E10 8 wheeler G648OAL but then nothing until 2 S reg in 1998 ,except may be for second hand in between times .I remember the Cargos F reg and G747OPH? or 748 and a H reg?I had a short spell at Mellors when the F reg FL10s started coming second hand at the same time as the Fodens regs like F177.PAY but not many G regs
It was about that time that three of our major customers closed their operations in our area. After hauling cement and a little fly ash, my employer put me on subbing for a haulier in this part of the country where I alternated cement products with powdered chemicals & minerals.
