Now

i wonder if you could very quickly fit a big j cab on it and take some photos of the rear of the cab then bingo

I did ask about photos but he has no idea with computers how to send them to me, I am going to his place soon so will update the post as soon as I have some pics.

Bit more news the cab with the Atki 240 has never been fitted and come direct from the Atkinson factory it was supplied complete with all the glass and interior panels mirror arms etc (dry stored) this alone must make it a great find. the price for the whole lot is £7000 o.n.o.

That Blackwell TS14 on the back of the Atki reminds me of when I was escorting 2 of them from Blackwood Hodge in Northampton to the site at Beaconsfield on the new to be bypass (M40).
I pulled up at the crossroads in High Wycombe and before the lights changed had a glug of Coka Cola. As the lights changed I screwed the top back on, but my coat had fallen over the hand brake and before I could get it off Alan Cotton driving the lead scraper hit me and pushed the FG leyland over the junction and quite a few yards up the hill before I got away from him. I pulled into the big lay-by over the hill to inspect the damage (None) and the 2 scrapers pulled in to see what the fuss was about and why everybody in Wycombe was pointing at us.
The lay-by was too short for all of us so Malcolm in the rear Terex was on the verge with his back wheel and had crushed a culvert, sinking down to the body so we chained him out with No.1 and scarpered. Sorry to hijack the thread. Hope the Borderer went to a good home. Jim.

The Terex TS14 was a single engine scraper the TS24 was the twin engine scraper which
is on the low loader.    -    could be wrong though  .

Thanks. You are quite right. Old age makes me remember the ts24 as being bigger and I didn’t notice the back! Well spotted. Jim

Thought the Blackwell machine was a TS14, didn’t think could get a 24 on that trailer, although maybe can see top of the rear engine in the photo. Another one here, a TS24 of M J Gleeson, either going to, or coming from their Empingham Reservior contract, now named Rutland Water.
The Atkinson was sold on to Luton Transport in 1977/78.

Beautiful photo hermit. Those Atkinsons are stunners. Our TS 24’s and Cat 657’s were too big for our lowloader so we used to take the back half-shafts out and drive them site to site. Kinross (M90) to Felixstowe (Trimley bypass) What a plod. Jim.

This Terex (pit pony) lived in the last working pit to use Thomas the Tank engines. :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: - :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

7 grand that’s more then it cost new!

8LXBV8Brian, where was that TS24, and why was it called a pit pony ?
