1970's Euro driving

I couldn’t find a relevant thread to put this in. About 30 minutes in he is talking about a WW2 massacre near the vilage of Cerdon on the approach to Mont Blanc

I’ve kept that to finish watching when I have time…good YT find mate.
A little before my time, but definitely the best time of both Euro and UK trucking.
No phones, no trackers, no b/s from those like many today running the job who know f.all about it.

I used to idolise those guys when I was a young lad and wannabe trucker myself, and when a Ford Transcontinental was the full pose motor to be seen in.

Funnily enough, he’s the opposite of a poser, which is probably why his Transcon is unadorned and bog-standard. His commentary is all about the burocracy of being an owner-driver on Euro work basically. I have to say, when I drove Transcons I never gave a thought to what I might look like in one, they were just wonderful to drive!

You’re right, but I remember the times when we were hoarding pennies or waiting in a queue in the rain trying to get a backload or hoarding gittonis in Italy each one which paid for a few seconds and constantly pushing them in on a call to Blighty because they ran out as quick as they hit the bottom of the box, and how we thought it was a gift from God when we found a bar with a meter phone?

Yeah, I loved it too,

Nice bit of nostalgia in that video, @cav 551, he mentioned Bob McAngus at one point who was less than popular after he spoke on camera about the bribery on the borders, but I noticed he didn’t shy from mentioning it either.

I still enjoyed it though and it brought back some happy memories, the less happy ones are gone and forgotten.
