18ton + driver hire / rental

Whats rough cost of an 18 ton rigid and driver for the day ?
Is it charged per hour or per day if day how many hours in a day ?( only doing small mileage maybe 60 miles a day)
How is fuel charged ?
If u rent a truck for a day to move someone elses goods do you need a operator s licence as the truck rental company as far as i am aware dont need a operators licence or is it they just dont have to display it ?
Thanks in advance guys and girls

no idea about rental , I’d guess the truck would be full when you pick it up and if it isn’t full when you drop it off you will be charged an exorbitant rate for it !

Or on the other hand the Smart Alec answer to your fuel question would be " by the litre"

you will need your own O licence ! The truck rental company won’t have one as they’re not hauliers

The usual alternative to paying for a load to be moved from A → B is to pay ‘dayworks rate’, where you pay an hourly rate for the lorry to either drive around or stand around at your convenience. Assuming you’re talking about something simple (box, tipper, flat - no crane, for example), you’ll probably be paying around 30-40 / hr. I’d expect any haulage company to quote you on this basis if you ask.

You won’t be able to dry-hire a lorry and put an agency driver in it without already having an operator’s licence.
