18 to 21 year olds with C - do you have the 103 code?

gov.uk/driving-licence-codes
18 to 21 year olds with LGV C should have the 103 code (103 - subject to certificate of competence) next to the C (and CE) on the licence according to DVLA

Can anybody in this age range confirm this is the case please ?

The law is that any driver between the ages of 18 to 21 driving a LGV above 7.5 tonnes privately or commercially must have passed the initial LGV dcpc modules 2 and 4

I sent off for my license after my CPC and I don’t have the code. Surely I should have it there either way though?

This isn’t for just 18-21 year olds this is for ANY new driver entering the hgv scene, I’m 24 and once I passed my c and c+e I had to do both modules 2 and 4 of the initial cpc before I was allowed to drive professionally

I think the point Rog is making is that 18-20 year olds need the CPC even to drive for private use ie horsebox while someone older would not.

I must be honest not come across the 103 code before.

Exactly what LGV trainer said

I’ll check when my licence comes back. Was sent off last week and I’ve done my Mod 4 and 2.

After talking the DVLA, they stated that the 103 code should be there whether the initial has been passsed or not for under 21s with C or CE as a reminder that they are subject to the dcpc rules on under 21s

Missed it on mine then. When did it come in, or has it always been there? I have JAN18 in the hologram area, presumably the manufacture date.

Licence came back today.
I’m 21 and I turned 21 on the 16th of last month. I passed cat C on the 25th.
My licence doesn’t have the 103 code.

It shouldn’t have it because you are over age 21

im 21, but passed my test last march at age 20, mines not got any codes?

It seems as though the DVLA are not doing what they should - no surprise there then !!

I passed my Class 1 when I was 18, I’m 19 now about to turn 20 in a few months and I have no 103 code near my license, driving artics commercially with the initial CPC complete.

No 103 code on my licence either, I’m 20 with my cat c

You need to have Mods 2 + 4 to work, I passed, im currently under 20 driving for a company,

Without 2 + 4, i was told by VOSA test examiner, they can suspend your license if you get caught, and even points…

The need for a DQC to drive in any circumstances only came in recently, I imagine the young drivers here who have no code 103 obtained their licences before the rules changed for drivers under 21, hence no code 103 ?

Any driver now just below age 21 would have been 18 after the start of the dcpc so that 103 code should have been used

I have emailed DVLA and asked them why they are not using it

Yes we know you need modules 2 and 4 to drive commercially but that’s not what ROG is getting at, he’s wondering why we don’t have Code 103 on our licenses.

The 103 is to inform those under 21 who may not know that they are ‘subject’ to dcpc
