175,000 tachograph cards could be faulty

Is it just English cards that have failed or is it the rest of Europe has well

Novadata advises drivers to check the card in another vehicle or download device to ascertain if it is faulty and if so to contact the DVLA within seven days. Returned cards should be marked “code 48” on the envelope to enable quick processing, with replacement cards issued in 5-7 days.

Although the reason for the cards malfunctioning is not yet known, one driver, who preferred not to be named, contacted CM to say he’d spoken to drivers from many of the major truck operators who had been affected by the problem.

You can apply for a replacement at the DfT site.

Have you got a faulty card? email chirs.druce@roadtransport.com

A lot of our drivers are now being affected by this, almost half the depot. I suspect the op’s figure of 175,000 is gonnae be lot higher than they think.

My replacement came today. :open_mouth:

That was quick, as I only posted it on Friday.

i wont be allowed to work without it.

Why?

Can’t you do vehicle print outs at the start and end of your shift?

What do you think I’ve been doing since last Wednesday?

As long as you report it to Swansea, they will give you 15 days until your replacement arrives once you’ve sent your old one back as faulty.

Ken.

Agency won’t let us, pain in the Japs eye

Came across this, no idea if it works.

A member working for Royal Mail has informed me about a possible solution to the problem with refused digicards.

Insert the faulty card , wait until the tacho refuses the card and shows error 48, press OK until the fault clears, than reinsert the card and it will be accepted. So far this has worked every time on Royal Mail vehicles.

didn`t work for me on a 60 plate premium either - then again, its a bonus if anything works on a 60 plate premium

I heard last night that the 15 day ‘rule’ is to be extended until all issues are resolved - DVLA’s website confirms this… but also that EVERYONE would be issued a new digi-card so any potential future problems are avoided also.

Anway I have £20 on down at the bookies that this was the work of a disgruntled employee, who guess what, was sacked just over 5 yrs. ago!!

Just as an aside, I have instructed my bank to contact the DVLA should I have any problems covering this months bills due to their error. I’m sure they will be able to sort it between themselves… Phew.
