The confession came after the HGV smashed into Skew Bridge, in Whalley New Road, Blackburn, at around 10.40am yesterday, resulting in the front of the trailer being badly damaged and bottles of alcopops to be spilt into the road. Must have missed the rest of it.
A muppets, a muppet.

God I’d hate to make that phone call
It was a railway bridge…that’s 3 calls. Network Rail, The Bill and then his TM, who at best may be a tad peeved questioning his parentage and possibly mentioning P45s etc
No excuse for the driver in this case as there are warning signs before the bridge…but I always think how many trucks would be saved turning round if the attached sign at the last roundabout before the bridge was changed. Drive through this bridge quite a bit and wouldnt fancy turning a truck by this bridge!
if you drive on the A52 through Grantham, there’s a right turn by Mcdonalds for Melton Mowbray.the 11’3" (IIRC) rail bridge warning sign isn’t in view until you’ve turned into the road! twice in the last few weeks i’ve seen artics having to reverse out back into the traffic at a main junction.

Is this guy real?He said: “The driver should have known the lorry was too high. He might have had a better chance in the middle of the road. This kind of thing does happen now and then.”
Can happen, there is a well known Peak District bridge on an A road that is over a foot higher on one side of the road than the warning sign states. You just need to know which side it is though!!!
Does seem to be a lot of bridge strikes these day though, is it that trucks are higher or driver’s are denser?
Pete.
If thats the 515 one it
s been lifted by about 5 feet since a nasty accident a few years ago when a truck went right over a car killing the occupants instantly.

I know the one you mean, isn’t it near Pizza Hut and National tyres / quick fit??
I had to guide a truck back out of there when I had my caravan on the back.
BUT, there is a sign before and it tells you. I’ll admit at the junction it’s difficult to see from that direction, but about 100yrds before the junction is a main sign that tells you.
I wasn’t pleased because I was getting quite a bit of abuse - caravan stopped in middle of the road - for helping him out.

The abuse wasn’t for stopping and helping him, it because you own a caravan

That’s the one, at Fenny Bentley. If coming South the offside was considerably higher than the indicated height, ‘strange’ trucks coming to our quarry used to struggle as the bridge at Longcliffe was too low but once they knew about the other ones height variation they came in that way by going on the wrong side of the road. Didn’t know they had altered it though, 11 years since I last passed that way!

Partly right, it was for having a caravan and stopping - the 2 combined MUST mean I’d ■■■■■■ up and was now ■■■■■■ as I’d be incapable of reversing it or something similar
Same as when a load of truckers were giving me a ■■■■■■ sign and laughing after I had a flat a few years ago, even though it was caused by running over part of a ratchet strap that hooked into the tyre and then ripped it off the rim causing massive damage to my caravan because some muppet trucker doesn’t know how to stow his straps
