45 thousand thats gone down a bit…! i always thought (was told) 100 thousand plus mybe its all our euro buddies bringing the number down
as per always why would anybody with any sense go into an industry which is percived to be long unsociable hours, low pay, dirty and no great prospects

I don’t know - some people get themselves elected as MPs

Is this a quote from a haulage company asking the government for money to fund training? I saw an article about Ferguson transport doing the same, If so the government should tell them to do one for being stupid.

Oh I don’t know? Maybe it has something to do with the immigrants filling positions? I mean, maybe? I might be wrong though…‘but I thinking this be what is.’

There was something similar in Commercial Motor a while ago where a firm in Stockport was saying the same thing. Turn the page and there’s a picture of one of his blinged-up V8s. Hmmm…

Expecting taxpayer money to cover training which, when all is said and done, will increase a company’s profit, is wrong. Training people to do the job is a cost of doing business and should be factored into budgets and whatnot rather than expecting someone else to pay for it. The bus companies seem to manage to do it while at the same time returning double-digit profit margins and, in many cases, paying more than haulage does.

Wages still ■■■■■ = no driver shortage

As long as you can reach the pedals.

No perception about it - that and a lot more is exactly what’s wrong with this ‘industry’ and I swear some bosses still refuse to see any of it!

But not to worry - one day all distribution and logistics will be offered by foreign owned and run companies as per the wishes of UK Plc to see the back of it all.

It’s what was voted for! Remember?!

If you sent it written like that with a cover letter written like that as well it would get instantly filed in the bin.

A decent wage would be an easier way of curing the problem.
