It’s strange that 32 out of a 150+ drivers are held responsible for colliding yet on the M5, not one driver was held accountable for colliding which caused seven people to be killed■■?

Or is it they’ve offered a few a course, to make it look like they’ve investigated it and have done something, but really don’t have the evidence to take to court and are hoping nobody calls thier bluff.

With the M5 they hoped they could pin it on the guy with the fireworks.

Exactly this, just makes things look good & somethings being done, ticks all the boxes at police HQ every ones happy, maybe they might even put some matrix warning signs/speed limits etc in adverse conditions now :exclamation: :exclamation:

When I first passed my test and had nice, expensive cars right up my rear bumper when I was driving to the conditions in fog, I thought to myself that I must aspire to be like them, with the skill and confidence to drive fast in thick fog. No word of a joke.

I now see them for the egotistic, brainless ■■■■■■■■ they are. Sometimes my right foot can get very itchy when I’m sub 20 MPH in terrible visibility (especially knowing I’m on a long, straight road), but I respect myself for driving safely and respect those around me who do the same. It all depends on the specific situation. There are roads that, when foggy, I may drive a ‘tad’ faster (35-40 mph as opposed to 30-35 mph for example) on because at that particular moment I judge it to move the risk of being rear ended versus me rear ending somebody else to a more ‘balanced’ point. This is based purely on experience of seeing how fast others drive through fog and skewing my driving style slightly to take that into account also.

edited to say - Also, where appropriate, I’ll set my speed on cruise control and maintain my focus directly ahead with my foot hovering over the brake, ready to react immediately if required. I find that this reduces the amount of things I have to think about should I be confronted with something unexpected.

Nothing strange about it when you realise the authorities have offered them £160 a pop driving awareness courses.
But i do take your point, if you hit someone up the arse you should be held to account. It doesn’t happen.

Do all you can to preserve your own life, as there is seldom anyone else around to preserve it for you, that is how I drive lorries, powerful cars, motorcycles and boats…So far, so good

So, 32 drivers were identified as not being able to stop in time, not having driven according to the conditions, hoping somehow that driving fast without being able to see far enough ahead is OK. Of the other 118, some could presumably not be proven to have hit another vehicle, some would have luckily been just able to stop in time and some would have been driving carefully only to get hit by one of the 32. And a few lucky individuals perhaps were able to both not hit and not be hit. I wonder how many of the 32 have really learnt their lesson, but they might argue it was the first crash that caused it all really.

Snudger probably none of them have learned their lesson. You can almost guarantee they will all have an excuse and of course it was never their fault.
Maybe just maybe one or two of them will take heed from the awareness course and think more about their driving in future.
Of course you will get the arrogant ones that think they know better but attend to avoid any penalty.
How often do you hear of a driver admitting it was his or her fault?
It is a bit like when you ask a driver what type of driver they are…99% will say they are good so why do we see so many bad ones on the roads.
The problem is we all perceive things differently and after passing a simple test some think they are the bees knees when in fact they are the worlds worst.

no body was killed in this accident which was a miracle.

There probably was 1 or 2 drivers that were responsible for the M5 incident, but if they are dead what can they do?
