I’ve been offered a shift on Friday, that goes from 7:00 to 21:45. It’s for a car pound. I drive around with a parking attendant looking for illegally parked vehicles and taking them back to the pound. So it’s pretty much all driving. Is there any way a shift that long is legal?
Now it could be considered a ‘specialised breakdown vehicle’, which is an exemption to EU rules, and it could be considered a police vehicle, which is an exemption under GB rules. Still, I’m dubious . . .
It is neither of those exemptions and I cannot think of an exemption it might fit into so it looks like you will need to conform to EU regs unless someone else can see something I have not
I assume it is over 3.5 tonnes MAM ?
I looked again and still cannot see any EU regs exemption
Why is it illegal? You can work a 15 hour day. Providing you are not actually driving for more than 10 hours you’ll be fine.
If you get a car to be towed you’ll be on other work for a good 30 mins plus loading it on the trailer etc. So can’t see how you’ll have a problem to be honest.

I’ve driven an entire normal length shift without actually lifting a single car. It all depends on how many people are parking illegally that day. That I won’t spend nearly the entire time driving cannot be guaranteed.
so your saying your not allowed stop for a ■■■■ or something to eat in all those hours.
if it was me id be finding a industrial estate to sit off for a few hours.

It will be guaranteed now because you the driver has control of that

Breaks, yes. But I doubt there are so many breaks that after 10 hours driving I’ll be at the end of my shift.

You got 2 choices. Create those breaks or finish early.

Yes - 13.75 hours is quite legal, provided you have a reduced Daily Rest available and you don’t exceed 10 hours’ actual driving. If you are driving for more than 9 hours, you’ll be required to take at least 1.5 hours of Break anyway. I assume the other guy can’t drive the vehicle…?
