15 hour day

Hi Everyone,
new to the site and this has probably been covered before but I can’t find it. Can you take 11 hours daily rest in the middle of the day and drive either side of, therefore going over a 15 hour day? for example. Start at 0500 and drive for 3 hours. Then pull the card as I am free to dispose of my time as I see fit. Then drive again at 2000hrs for 3 hours. I have at least 9 hours off before I start a day like this and after it. Thank you

Look at it as periods of 24hrs not days.
Min 9 hrs in 24
So yes no problem

do You get paid for the 9 hrs in the middle ?

This is what i thought but wasnt 100%, so thank you for replying.

Looks like you’ve described two “days”.
Day one starts at 05hr00 ends at end of daily rest period at 20hr00.
Next day starts at 20hr00 and ends 08hr00 ?
Remember that any daily rest under 11hrs is a reduced period and only 3 are allowed between weekly rest periods.

Daily Rest Period resets the clock. You start a new 24 hour period after it.
What you’re describing sounds like a can of worms to me.
9 hours off.Followed by 3 hours driving.Followed by 11 hours daily rest followed by 3 hours driving. So you’ve only been paid for 6 1/2 ? hours work from when you started at 0.4.45 ? to when you finished at 23.15 ?.
You’ll need a water tight definition of ‘free to dispose of your time’'.So long as you’re not getting paid for it would probably cut it.
If you’re getting paid for it all bets are off it’s a sort of POA not daily rest.

The 12 hour rest is just a daily rest, but you also happen to be starting back within 24 hours of when you last started a shift, which is absolutely fine.

So you started at 0500 and your shift ended at 0800. That is a shift.

You started again at 2000 after a 12 hour rest. That is a new shift.

You have adhered to taking the minimum continuous rest in the 24 hour period (since starting a shift) before starting a new shift. When you start back, a new 24 hour period commences.

Getting paid or not is irrelevant.

If you’re free to dispose of your time as you wish and not under any instruction or obligation, then it’s fine to be a rest period, if taking that rest period in a vehicle then it needs suitable sleeping facilities and stationery
