15 Hour day

Yesterday I did 15 hour day from 10:30 am to 01:30 am
but when I phoned up saying It’s going to be tight
hours wise he said you can do 15 hours working
time plus 1 hour for your break as you dont get paid
for your break. This did not sound right to me as I
thought 15 hours was the time you start to the time
you finish.

Also I had to change vehicle and filled the back of the
tacho in manually is this correct

No, it is wrong. the fifteen hours includes all breaks. the only way you can do 16 hours is when you have had 1 or 2 breaks during the day that total 4 hours.

Yes.

Also At 00.00 dont you become classed as a “night worker” under the Wtd so you should only do a 10 hour shift if your working past midngiht. ■■ This is causing alot of differing opinions at our place at the moment

Cheers neil

the night working regs only apply if you dont have a work force or personal agreement

I have another question. I only driven about 8 hours
and took a 30 min break just before 6 hours and then
I had another 15 min break before 9 hours. My question
is even though I was ok for driving hours should I took
another break. The reason I am asking is I was looking
over an old post and his driving hours where ok but
he took a 30 min break for the first 6 hour and then took
another 30 min break for the 2nd 6 hour

If you are driving on EU then you are supposed to take a 45 minute break after 4.5 hours of driving, or say do 2 hours then stop for 30, then another 2.5 hours and have 15 minutes to start the 4.5 off again.
You could if you really wanted, drive for 10 minutes (or less) then have a 30 min break, then carry on driving for 4hr 20 minutes, have 15 minutes break and then carry on for another 4.5 hours before having to take a break, so in effect you have done nearly 9 hours driving with just a 15 minute break.

I did not explain my question to well sorry. When I did
the 15 hour day I took a 30 min break just before
6 hour on duty and then I took a 15 min break just
before I reached 4 1/2 hours driving time. So by 9
hours on duty I had took a 45 min break. I was just
wondering if I needed another break on 12 hours
on duty.

Not that I know of mate. But on 15 hours i think you should be entitiled to more than a 45 minute break. I did a 14 hour day on monday but had to take two 45’s because of the amount of driving i did, just got my head down when the phone goes. " Hows it going bud, alright ?" must remember to switch the bloody thing off next time. Always remember the alarm after one of our drivers dozed off and woke up 21/2 hours later.

It was working for that health teck synergy place
near your place knight doing drops to hospitals.
I seen the white Iveco again but not your truck.
Until this job the most hours I had worked was
12 hours and that was before the WTD came in

did you do the full 15 hours and was your 15 minute break taken after nine hours, if it was after then your fine if it was before 9 hours and you did go up to 15 then you would have required a extra 15 mins due to the 6 hours duty rule

ya get me

jon

Cheers jonboy  . I needed to take a 15 min break
as I did a full 15 hour day and had the breaks before
9 hours. I will remember that for future reference.

Another question I have is I got told that you can go
over your 15 hour day by 30 mins and you put on the
back of the tacho something like could not find parking.
I have not done this as I dont believe this guy as he told
me for low bridges he drops the suspension right down
if he is just a little higher than the bridge height. I am only
guessing but I would have thought using the air suspension
is for loading/unloading and coupling  .

15 hours is your maximum, there is no going over except in exceptional circumstances, you should allow your self enough time to get where you are going, sometimes it is very tight.but you should’nt think that you can just go over and blag it.and dont let anyone tell you that you can.even if your 10 minutes away from base and your out of time you should stop well beforehand.
if your not gonna get to where your going , stop somewhere at 14hrs 45mins or before, you dont have to max yourself out,as it will be you paying the fines.
fair enough if you get stuck in traffic say on the M1 jcn 13-15 and you get held up for 20 mins and you go over your 15 hour by 10 minutes, you should write on your tacho something like
“Exceeded Daily duty time by 15 minutes due to traffic delays M1 jcn 13-15 I pulled over at next possible service area (junction)or as safe as it was to do so.etc etc”
Hope this helps
oh and as for the low bridge suspension thing I would’nt bother unless you get yourself stuck somewhere as a last resort,
sounds like a ■■■■■■■ stupid idea to me
