No, you make no sense. Whilst a 15 hour day in Tacho regs is classed as a reduced break it doesn’t necessarily follow that you have 9 hours off. I regularly start at 0600, finish at 2100, then start work the next day at 0800. I’ve had 11 hours off in reality.
Let’s get this right you’re saying that in most cases the guvnor is going to say fine when the driver takes 3 hours break turning a 13 hour shift into a 15 hour one. Then to add insult to injury he’ll also say great when the driver says he’s also going to start two hours later the following day to compensate for the longer shift created by the extra break during the previous shift. What could possibly go wrong.
On that note I obviously did it all wrong on night trunking. When what I should have done was park up for an extra 1.5 hours break each way.Thereby also getting the over time for it then start 3 hours later for the following shift thereby also getting enough sleep. It brings new meaning to the idea of job and finish.

You really are thick, arn’t you?
Admittedly my maths isn’t university standard. But the premise, that what’s being described is let’s turn, what would be,a 13 hour shift, into a 15 hour one,by taking an unnecessary 2 extra hours off as break during it for example, seems reasonable.

You have to remember carry fast that a lot of drivers will drag ever hour out the job they can by having a extra hour here / there ,they want to extend the day so they can earn extra £££££££££.
I’m with you , I want to be parked up as soon as I can , 12 hrs is enough for me to be honest , that said I can’t afford to get in any more trouble so at 3 1/2 hrs these days it’s break time ,50 mins , minimum 9 hrs 15 mins .
With only one 45 break or a split break of 15/30 = actual days work of 14.25 hrs out of 15,tells me that the days work schedule needs to be looked at,aswell as a drivers brain for doing it
I keep getting reminded that it’s illegal to do a 15 hour shift at night - unless you put breaks and/or POA in it to bring it down to 10 hours on duty and other work.
Most of us are NOT Unionized with a local agreement in place.

Which part of,it’s all the pointless ‘breaks’,which are actually creating the 15 hour shift in that case, don’t they understand. While the break/POA/waiting time get out means that the so called night shift time limit effectively only applies to driving time and does nothing to help the real problem of knackered drivers driving around with not enough sleep between shifts.Which applies regardless of days or nights. On that note if the unions were doing their job they’d go for a blanket minimum unbroken 12 hour daily rest regime in all sectors regardless of days or nights.
While Dozy seems to have hit the nail on the head in that the idea of taking silly amounts of unnecessary breaks is probably often about drivers trying to artificially extend shift times to increase their earnings.

Forget driving time. What is the minimum break needed in a 15 hour shift? Is it 45 mins?
E.g. Start at 0500 couple of hours driving 15 min break at 1100. Couple more hours driving 30 mins break at 1700 this would reset your drive time. 2 hours drive back to base then 30 mins other work finish at 2000. Is it legal?
Thanks inadvance
It isn’t legal as far as the WTD is concerned, starting at 05.00 you need to have had a total of 30mins break by 14.00, so the first 15minutes within 6 hours is fine, but you need a further 15 minutes before you’ve done 9 hours, ie 14.00.

What the OP posted is perfectly legal.
if you’re doing a 15 hour shift there’s no requirement to have 30 minutes break before exceeding 9 hours.
For the WTD a 15 hour shift requires a minimum of 45 minute break and at no time should you do more than 6 hours working time without a break of at-least 15 minutes.
Alterego, you come on a forum, asking a simple question regarding hours worked and the necessary breaks required, are you a troll?, or an ■■■■■■■, basic knowledge required of a driver, I would have thought, if you don’t know, hand in your licence, form a queue at Aldi, and get a job stacking shelves, you are obviously not cut out to be a " professional driver " problem solved, another [zb]wit, informed.

There is NO requirement to have had 30 min break nine hours into the shift (or after working nine hours).

No I’m not a troll, it’s a perfectly reasonable question which has received mainly reasonable answers. I was 99% it was legal just double checking.
Also in I’m not thinking of working to this pattern, as you can read from other posts I’m salaried for 11 hours, however sometimes, due to traffic bad planning etc, we sometimes go over. I refuse to use poa and “book” the minimum breaks to suit me. I refuse to book break at rdcs because taechnically locking your cab and handing in your keys is other work.
Note the word book in inverted commas in the previous paragraph, I have plenty of downtime, thank you. I only book 45 mins break per day to get my working time up, so that on a particularly heavy week or come the end of the reference period, I can suggest they give me shorter days to get my average down.
So all you that use poa and book breaks while waiting in traffic etc. Carry on
