12v multi adapter to run my fridge off!

Who better people to ask than you beautiful bunch.
I’m looking for a 12v multi adapter for my wagon, that I can run My fridge off amongst other things and need to know which is the best and where the bloody hell you get them from. I’ve just bought one from Amazon and it’s melted the plastic within minutes of me turning it on. I ain’t bothered about the cost but could someone please point me in the right direction.

If cost isn’t a factor take it to a workshop, caravan specialist, auto electrician.

From what you have posted there are a lot of variables that would affect the answer, like power requirement of fridge, how long will you run it at any time, do you need to convert the voltage, what load can the plug in point safely handle, is the vehicle owner ok with your plans?

It’s just your standard 12v coolbox from Halfords that you plug in to the cigarette lighter plug. Need something that can allow it to run properly. The adapterthat just burnt out is a 5A 1000mA 4 way adapter. I just want to know if there’s anything else out there that’s better quality. I mean, the wiring in this thing just looked like cotton thread in the plug. I’m pretty sure I need something more sufficient. I’m only running the coolbox, no TV/microwave or nothing else. Plus a couple of charging leads for phone/satnav etc.

You could do what i did cut cigarette lighter plug off the cool box put a hella sockett plug on then use these.

Never had a problem since i cut the cigarette lighter plug off the cool box ,Ihad this problem see thread below

I had the same problem with the lead from the socket to the adapter not being up to the job (in fact it melted into the carpet oops) so I then brought one of these that has a much thicker gauge of cable and haven’t had a problem since.

Hope this helps.

Plugs and sockets don’t matter, just wire in a good one, 13amp, two pin Euro or American 2 pin.

A Dutch company always fitted a 12v and a 24v household socket into the footwell, one for the fridge, coffee machine and another for TV, Hairdryer or ■■■■■■■■.

I don’t claim any formal expertise but have some rusty o level physics memories, and used devices, including a kettle in a truck so these comments you use at your own risk.

1 - Change the cigarette plug for a Hella, cigarette plugs sre notoriously poor connectors for higher current devices.

2 - Are you plugging into a 12v or 24v outlet? Is the fridge dual voltage? Plugging a 12v device into a 24v supply will not end well, would explain the previous adapter frying.

3 - Find out the power rating of the fridge, it should be on a plate on the case or the original packaging, & use an adapter that can handle it + some for the other chargers you intend to use.

4 - If you have some soldering skills make your own adapter and feed it from an anderson connection and fuse it seperately. You’ll need a matching anderson point on the truck, tailift connector. That will be 24v so if your fridge isn’t dual voltage not a realistic option.

That sounds like the multiblock is 5 amp max split over 4x 1 amp connectors. Depending on the voltage, thats not a lot.

I use this one which seems better designed than many and hasn’t died like so many others. Its 12 and 24v compatible plus shows voltage and does USB.

Before using it, you need to check the wattage of the fridge. This one allows 40 watts per cig lighter socket and 120w across all 3 plugs.

Do make sure it is running 12v from the socket as I’ve seen some marked as that which are chucking out 24v. Prob wrongly wired at some point.
