I want to fit my CB into my wagon, but am unsure where to get a power supply from. I have an old 12v CB which, despite its age, is excellent, but I don’t know if there is a 12v supply anywhere in my 05 plate Daf 85CF. A mate suggested the tacho might be 12v. Anyone know if this is so?
I am loathed to spend money on a new 24v rig when there’s nowt wrong wi mine and a dropper would cost a few sheets too. Any ideas??
just wack a multimeter into the socket if it reads less than 14v its 12v and if it reads about 26 v its 24v
What about the radio?
Isn’t that 12volt?

probably best not to touch the wires going to the tacho
i wouldnt touch the tacho at all…
at the bottom of the dash under the radio is 2 sockets but these are both 24 volt.
buy a dropper of ebay only a tenner.
in the 95 there is a 12v feed by the radio and cb coax, i had to ask at dafs fitter took panel off (the one with the tacho and radio in) 12v +earth in a white plastic plug and cb coax from passenger side mount were there, presume 85 eletrics same as 95xf 03 reg i have a spare dropper if required free just pm me

yeah thats right thinking back… by the electronic tacho head should be a blank cover pull that off it will just pull off with no force and there should be everything you need behind it.
Here’s what we all did before trucks had 12v outlets
Take the live feed to the CB, add extra wire as needed to the bridge on the batteries and run the earth to the chassis on the cab, hey presto
the bridge is 12v as opposed to 24 v
why not buy a 12v dropper… only need a small one for a rig… £15 tops
If its a new shape 85 with the radio in the dash not above your head, pull out the tray above/below the radio and you’ll probably find a 12v feed for a CB complete with multiplug. My 85 8 legger came with one and I used it to power my handsfree kit.

Don’t want to use the sockets (all of which are 24v) I would rather wire it in properly instead of having wires running round the cab.

There is a plug there, no coax though, but not sure if it’s 12/24v.

Think it’s 24v mate.

Sounds promising, thanks Lard, and all of you for the advice. Will have a look on Monday.
