would a 6 amp or 10 amp dropper be good enough to power a 12 volt coolbox like this
halfords.com/car-seats-trave … ic-coolbox
and would it be safe to leave on 24 hr x 5 days
Personally i would steer clear of anything 12 volts and just get 24 volts, job done but that’s just my opinion mate.
Better for the truck’s batteries.

Nice one take it you don’t have 12 volt socket in the cab then??

Bugger I think any decent 12 volt dropper would do but i personally wouldn’t leave it on all week, that’s just me other’s may do
if you can tell me how many watts the cool box uses, i can give you the ampage! it will most likely be written on it somewhere!
Cheers

Wattage is 40W. Draw in amps is approximately 3.5A from a 12V supply
just got that off halfords site

the formulae is P=IxV… P = Power (watts) I = Current (amps) and V = Voltage (volts) transposed using the info we have… its is I=P/V So 40W/12V = 3.33333333333333333A
or as halfords have rounded it up, 3.5A
so to answer your original question, a 6A dropper will be more than ample

thanks for that, i have both 6 an 10 amp ,would it be safe to leave on overnight or would it burn out or drain batteries.
My 12v Halford job works fine, don’t have it on all the time though as perishables are normally changed weekly. May give it an hours blast before bedtime but switched off through the night.
Had the trots last week after a Friday scotch egg so treat my comment with a pinch of salt, which reminds me I need some salt for me scotch eggs and another pack of wetwipes for me ■■■■■■■…

no bother pal! I would turn it off TBH… BUT only for the reason that them boxes can be bloomin noisy! if you wanna leave it plugged in, go for it!

I turn mine off in the evening and and weekend and leave the lid open to combat the condensation that builds up in them.
I only stock it with fresh stuff daily unless I have a night or two out and it chills my drinks quite quickly.
