11 ft 8inch bridge + a slightly taller mixer

I was told by a Euro driver quite a while ago that low bridges dont exist in Europe he may have been wrong i dont know but that could be the reason they hit the bridges , either that or they dont understand feet and inches.

I have never hit a bridge and i personally think if anyone has been stupid enough to hit a bridge they dont deserve the licence its not a major task to know the height of your vehicle is it?.

They do, more so than in the UK. In most European countries the height limit is 4.0 metres and there are plenty of bridges of that height spanning motorways.

hence the the low rider trucks then :open_mouth: and no mud flaps :unamused:

I came close on wednesday to hitting a bridge. Came up to it, not signed untill the bridge itself (although there was a truck turn around lane. Like a off road layby if you know what i mean. One on both sides of the bridge). I came up to it very slowly with the hazards on, opened my door and looked up. Stopped the trailer about 5 or 6 inches before the bridge and jumped out. had a good look at the bridge height and the trailer. Got a few swear words form car drivers stuck behind me. As i was looking a 17 tonner came up and saw me thinking about what to do next. He stopped and said ‘‘Don’t worry mate. I’ll look out for you’’. ‘‘Cheers’’ i said and i jumped in, moved SLOWLY forward and got under ok. Jumped out to thank the driver but he had already jumped back in and was pulling off.

Thanks to the driver of a white Iveco Eurocargo (54 plate, big high roof sleeper) if you are reading this.

Thats the closest i have come to a bridge yet (about 1/4 of a inch to spare).
