100 year old drivers

Just watched a show called “100 year old drivers” Guess what it was about! lol

What really surprised me, It wasn’t their driving, as there was a few hairy moments, it was how they lived their lives. They were always smiling and laughing, quite a few of them were quite switched on for 90-100+

Two in particular surprised me, one who played tennis regularly (Nearly 100) and another ol’ chap who rode a motorcycle at 92 or there abouts.

Got me thinking, When I was about 5 years old, my dad used to take me to work with him (Low Loader Driver) and I used to get a shot driving Bomags, then as I got older tractors, telehandlers, all terrain fork lifts, 3cx and so on. When I was 13-14 I got a shot of the truck. When I was 18 started driving buses, got my class one and Motorcycle licence when I was 21. At 23 was a bus driving instructor for a short time, then at 25 started using my class one, and I’m now nearly 27, and hopefully will stay a driver for the rest of my career.

My hobby is my motorbikes, and an looking into buying a old Discovery, to take up off roading. If I live into my 90’s and someone told me, something you’ve been doing and enjoying nearly your whole life, you are now forbidden from doing… I can only imaging the heartache, one of two of them had the attitude of “I’m not giving up my keys without a fight”.

I imaging I would be the same, although I pray to god I have the sense to stop when I become dangerous through age or illness

Anyone else see this show? Any opinions on 100+ driving…

I had a 103 year old driver hit me in 2007. I thought he looked old, but when a local copper came on the scene, he said, oh its our 100 year old driver. Apparently he had several bumps previously to the one involving me. He cut his Peugeot 205 in half when he hit my Transit causing three grands worth of damage. He carried on driving,as he had a few cars, and passed away when he was 106 years old.

I think that if you lose the ability to drive safely you should give up or the decision should be made for you.

^^^ brilliant.

What a bugger, bang goes the licenses of most over 17 year olds
