A local agency was advertising for HGV & PSV drivers in the local paper so I gave them a call to see what was on offer. When asked what class of licence I had I told there transport specialist C+E & D+E. I was told the pay rates for C+E & asked about PSV, it took 3 goes to get this transport recruitment specialist to understand what a full stick D+E was & its not a part PSV ( mini bus) licence.
I was then told to sign onto thier books I would need to provide a full 10 year work history, I pointed out that as I pick up work as & when & have not worked excluasivly for one person for more than a few months, ( less than 4, I think) during the past 6 years & that some people I only do the odd day for that this could prove difficult. Well it doesn’t matter about the exact dates I was told, just month by month, come in & see us next week as that will give you the weekend to write the list.
I know that I could be out of toutch but is this normel now? & it was Contract Personnel if anyone wnts to avoid them.
I work for them and they do require at least 2 years experience and and 180 days driving the relevent class of vehicles within that last 2 years. However they do get the work and the money is in the bank on the friday of the following week. If you have the experience and can give them good references then it still might be worth going into the office and having a chat. I think they want drivers more than they want a complete history. 
Problem is muckles, I drive rather than anything else as I like the informallity, if I wanted forms & hassle I would return to phychie or resedential social work etc & despite requiring a full criminal records check it would still be less hassle than this lot.
Also a transport specialist!!!, the girl wanted PSV drivers but thought a full stick D+E was a mini bus licence, if thats specialism god help the peole she’s finding work for.
I think I’ll stay as I am, I get all the work I want & 10 years work history is a joke that I have no plans to humour.
