10 miles of elephant racing last night on at A1

A turners had caught up a livestock trailer and went to overtake. They the proceeded to roll down any downhill side by side sand both sat there for a good 10 miles. I know it was around 10 miles or so as my next exit was 10 miles away and he started to overtake before the 10 miles and finally got past when they inside idiot got slowed behind another truck.

The idiot being overtaken should have backed off and let him in, conversely when he realise the idiot was going to hold him out then he should have also given up and dropped back in behind.

Cars stacked up behind the pair of plobbers. Stuff like this makes me hate being a driver, and drivers wonder why we are hated so much. Just poor driving by both as per usual. I just sat there watching from a safe distance.

I agree, and maybe even the guy who was overtaking had been left hanging when he let the other idiot out…

That happens quite regularly I find, you courteously let them out and instead of holding back a couple of seconds, they accelerate.

After saying that when it happens to me (quite regularly) I give up and back off to pull back In when I realise I am up against these type of pi55 poor quality drivers, I certainly don’t sit there for 10 miles.

So both as bad as each other in this case I would reck.

Elephant racing again.

Personally speaking when someone is overtaking me and their eco roll kicks in and they’re so out of touch and disengaged with the physical act of driving and don’t have the sense to intervene by using their throttle I think “screw you, you’re an idiot “.

however I do regularly back off when the overtaker is running out of steam because I find it embarrassing to appear to be the dick that is selfishly holding them out there

Just surprised a Turners was keeping up with a livestock outfit!

I agree with all the above in a commonsense way but would point out that the root cause is a perfectly reasonable law but which could do with tweaking.

A simple switch which would disable the limiter for say, 5 or 10 minutes, would allow such vehicles to complete the operation without danger but with kudos from backed up traffic behind.

Yes but, if there is another wagon behind him who is doing the same speed, he will then be faster and tempted to attempt an overtake too, thus compounding the felony, so to speak. If nothing else the wagon behind will also have to slow and lose way, which might be critical if heavy and approaching a slope.

If the overtaker lifts his foot and drops back behind, he might find himself then overtaken before he recovers normal speed, alternatively, he may accept his lot, and be condemned for maybe dozens of miles to travel at less speed than otherwise available.

Having a temporary disable button would be a much safer way of countering a dangerous situation, I filmed 2 artics on the N10 in France where the overtaker almost completed the task but couldn’t quite get far enough ahead to pull back in. I understood exactly what was happening as I saw the overtaking trailer begin to weave, almost colliding with the other’s mirrors, he was desperately looking in his own for the magic flash.

There was no chance of either of them being overtaken. I was the next lorry and sat not catching them up.

And a disable button, cause that would not be abused would it? And how exactly would you implement such a thing to make is useful and not being abused?

Too many people say oh can’t do this can’t do that, when you can.

And above all that is just common courteousy to be a helpful and nice driver, something that most drivers these days lack in abundance.

When car drivers start using indicators on r/o ( that includes a fair few Lorrie’s these days ) I’ll start worrying about holding them up for a few miles overtaking , does my head in , pulling up for the car comming around the r/o & he shoots off left without any indication .

Even Lorrie’s have started this crap , I sat there waiting to pull out of a jct , lorry comming down the road ( I thought he might flash me to help me get out ) decides to turn into the road I was exiting with no indication whatsoever, my fist nearly went through the side window

I’m at that stage of , ■■■■ everyone , they don’t seem to give a ■■■■ so why should I , I know there’s the point of view you shouldn’t stoop to there level , but they’ve about battered any thought of worrying about other drivers out of me

As a note I followed the wife home after picking her car up from service , indicators , what indication , her answer was nobody else does so why should I !!

We a month ago had 34 drivers finished after one drove through multiple red traffic lights on driver assessment, another never used his indicators once , and loads could only answer a few if any of the 50 questions they were required to do ,

If these so called drivers couldnt be bothered to stop for red traffic lights , use there indicators etc on a assessment drive where standards do matter , then what hope of any standards will you get when there out on there own for the day .

Dont get me started on assessment drives. Its just an excuse for them to get rid of drivers that dont fit their hiring policy,

I have only ever once come across a company that use it properly. They scored their drivers that passed green amber or red, if you were red you got extra coaching. and a re assessment in 6 months if you were yellow you had a days coaching and reassessment after a year. if you were green you got a reassessment after 2 years if you failed that they gave you coaching and you had another go.
apparently if you had a genuine accident and it was an honest mistake they would go with you to the store and see why it happened.

“Excuse” ? Who needs an “excuse” not to hire someone? If a job candidate doesn’t fit the hiring policy, they don’t get hired.

the law says you cant discriminate

The law says you cannot discriminate for certain characteristics. It is perfectly OK to refuse bad drivers, and potentially bad employees.

hence why they “fail” the assessment they cant be rejected for any other reason

my last assessment i managed to position myself with a straight line reverse as there was nothing infront of the bay i was reversing into. so even for me it was an easy reverse. I was told i had failed because i didnt get out the cab and look. The guy before me that needed three goes to pass the written theory test and nearly hit another trailer passed. the guy was nearly wetting himself when i was told i failed
