10 Hour Driving Day Question

Was in the yard fuelling up this morning and got talking to the driver on the next pump.We got on the subject of driving hours and he told me that on a day when you increase your hours to 10, that as long as you have done over 5 and a half hours driving that day you can take a 45 anytime you like in your second period and whatever hours you have left just rollover and get added to your extra hour.

Is this true?

If I’ve understood the question, the answer is yes. You don’t have to have the final hour on it’s own - which is what I think you’re asking.

Pete

Yep ,As long as no period of driving exceeds 4:5 hrs then yes and I do

Thanks for the replies [WHITE SMILING FACE]

Makes sense thinking about it.Like a wally i’ve been taking a 45 to get that last hour at the end of my second driving period. You can tell i’m fairly new to all this haha

I generally take it 2 hrs in to second period of driving

If you think that a 10 hour driving day is likely then doing this is what I used to do … roughly …

3.5 drive
45 break - brekky
3.5 drive
45 break - kip
3.0 drive

Now that i’m aware of this it makes the time i was pushing for home on a Friday evening and stopped 20 miles from our yard to take a 45 so i could get the extra driving hour seem ridiculous [emoji53]

You live and learn i suppose…
