Be careful of giving the old "Thumbs Down " sign to approaching vehicles.
I heard of a driver who went to court for ’ Obstructing a Police Officer ’
He came out of court with a hefty fine, while trying to warn approaching vehicles of the speed trap around the corner.
Unfortunately for him, an unmarked Police car was following a rig he warned with his downward thumb and a flash of the lights.
Exactly my sentiments Odds. The old thumbs down has been around so long but is rarely used nowadays I thought it had been forgotten about!
How about the plods trying to catch some real criminals instead of targeting the easy motorist for a change. Because thats an easy money spinner.
Crazy Even more so when you consider that in some countries the location of speed traps are broadcast on the radio. It’s a regular feature of the traffic bulletins on German radio for instance. One station I listen to gives the information it’s own slot in the programming complete with sound effects of camera shutters.
“today the safety cameras are situated on the A142” etc, etc.
Does your head in.
I must say though, the people who warn you of mobile cameras are few and far between.I think it reflects the " I’m alright Jack " mentality of the road user today.
So if you warn a fellow trucker of a safety hazard, like a broken down vehicle, with a view to preventing an accident would that be a problem?
When ever I’ve heard a copper talking about these cameras they say they want to reduce the speed of vehicles on safety grounds. Those who think that the speed cameras are a revenue generation scheme would seem to have some more evidence to support the case.
slightly off topic, but our local news today reported that a woman is currently fighting a case with northumbria police regarding being prosecuted for EATING A FLAMING APPLE.admitidly while driving … haway man wots gan.n on in this flipin world… whilst i appreciate road safety measures n that ,are these plods just taking the micky here. i would proberly get 15 years if they caught me rolling a ■■■ sipping me coffee and talking to the wife on the phone whilst doing 56mph on the B 1123… message to plod…GET A GRIP…
i still give the thumbs down to trucks and bikes when plod are about they seem to like sitting on the bridge above them new roadworks on the a14 northants cuz its a 40 through em .keep trucking traditions alive i notice that the flashin and the indicator thankyou seems to be dying out
over here in france if “les flick” are around you get a warning with a flash of the headlights
when i was driving back in the uk if i saw the rozzers or the ministry were around i give a shout out on the cb it saved me a couple of times when i heard one
and yep i think the flash on the indicators is dieing out i was back for 6 weeks doing some driving and if i was overtaken i would flash other drivers back in, a thank you doesnt take long or much thought, unless you have the mobile tucked under your ear and shoulder, smoking a ■■■ and eating a yorkie

Now I may be missing something here but if I see anyone about to mess with a vehicle/property and in my opinion I think they are about to either damage it or break into it I would say something to them.
By doing this I am warning them that if a police officer (who may be hiding) sees them they will be in trouble. Therefore I am preventing a crime and will be deemed a good citizen.
So what is the difference of me letting other motorists know that they will get into trouble if they are going a little too fast - I’m only preventing a crime after all.
Furthermore, we all know these cameras etc are not there for extra revenue so what’s the problem with me assisting the police in their everyday duties to reduce the number of motorists speeding (one flash & thumb down slows em).
Somewhere in the highway code it states you can warn oncoming motorists of a hazard ahead of them, in fact it says you should do so, I fail to see that a speed camera is not a hazard, considering the actions of drivers when they see one.
On thursday I was coming out of Nottingham on the A453 towards the M1, there had been a two vehicle pile up, a man in a Red Cross hi-vis coat was doing a sterling job of directing traffic(hat off to him).
Once past the crash, I was flashing my lights and giving the thumbs down to fast moving traffic, so I was helping the police in preventing a further accident, I wonder if I would have been done for that.
Oh, there was no speed camera so I wouldn’t have been done.
I hate the lot of them. They’re all lazy power freaks that can’t be bothered to get off their fat arses and do some proper work chasing real criminals because it’s too much hard work for them so they prefer to sit in their panda cars driving about wasting fuel and giving us law abiding folks unnecessary and unwarranted grief because it’s easy work for them. “I’m just doing my job, sir”, just doesn’t cut it any more.
I can never recall a time in my entire lifetime when a copper has actually helped a situation. More times than not they’ve actually made it worse by sticking their beaks in and they have an uncanny habit of always somehow managing to turn round the situation so that you, as the innocent one trying to do a good deed, actually ends up being the criminal in their eyes.
There aren’t any good cops any more and haven’t been for decades. They’re all on power pills from the word go in the force.
