I’d like to get people’s opinion on which is best, training with two learners in the cab or having the lessons solo?
When I did mine the first 2 days where by myself and the other days there were 2 of us.
I did find when there were 2 of us I found it easier as I was able to watch the other person and listen to the instuctor and then when I was driving I could repair the mistakes I had made earlier and remember what the instructor said to the other driver.
1 to 1 hands down. This has debated numerous times before.

This has indeed been debated at great length, but the outcome (IIRC) was that folks were advised to choose which one they think will work best for them, or which one they’re most comfortable with.
My own opinion is that 2:1 works best for most people, because of the concentration level needing to kept up for long periods leading to ‘brain fade’ on 1:1. There’s also the fact that candidates can learn from each other’s mistakes even when one of them is in the passenger seat.
I still don’t think there’s a one-size-fits-all type answer this this question though.
i did it 2:1 on my class C and 1:1 on my C+E. tbh this is the best way of doing it
because class C is learnign to drive a big vehicle so you can watch your fellow trainee and learn from his mistakes whereas with C+e you already know how to drive a big truck its just a bit bigger and bends
I have done both and I think 2 to 1 worked better for me, it gives you a chance to see hazards looming and to see the others make mistakes that you thought were acceptable. I also did my bike test 2 to 1 and we found it more helpful to talk through the exercises, especially U turns and fast roads.
I can learn from a book on my own, but am equally at home in a classroom with others. so it can only be a personal choice.
Different strokes for different folks but I would go along with Gogzy’s suggestion.
The ultimate debate 1:1 or 2:1
In general most trainers will advise which is best for them (any trainer care to disagree)
With nearly 30 years experience as a trainer and currently offering both styles the ultimate experience is 2 to 1. Instead of training for 4 hours alone, either 8-12 or 12-4 you get to experience the entire day.
1 hour totally focused is enough behind the wheel, then watch and learn fron the other canddiate. (by day 2 it is a team event. You are no longer alone)
The main reason training companies recommend 1 to 1 is because they do not have 3 seats in the vehicle.

I don’t believe there is a definitive answer to this. Although every vehicle in my fleet has 3 seats, my personal preference is for 1:1 tuition. That way, no trainee is being held back or pushed harder than they should be. Bearing in mind that the chances of having two trainees with similar driving backgrounds and learning rates, I find it better to work 1:1. But I am very familiar with the opposite view which is why we also offer 2:1 as an alternative.
One of the prime reasons for offering 2:1 is to cut the dead mileage to test areas in half. Some trainers travel upwards of 40 miles to the test area. With 2 drivers in the cab they only have to do this once in the day. Otherwise each driver would probably only have 1 hour in the appropriate area. We are fortunate to have our own test centre and so have zero dead mileage. That’s another reason we tend to stick to 1:1.
I fully understand the theorys behind concentration spans. I, personally, would suggest that part of the training is to hone the candidate’s concentration span. After all, they will be legal to drive 9 hours a day (10 twice a week before the tacho experts get me!) and should be able to cope with half a day of tuition provided it’s delivered appropriately.
Good luck everybody. Pete

+1
I did it the same way and agree. Cat C is learning a completely new skill so is tiring. Cat CE is an upgrade and less tiring.
Only you know what your abilities are to learn and hold the information.
Good luck with whichever choice you make
The 1st 2 days of my Cat C were 1-1 then 2-1 in some way was a help
CE was 2-1 which was a hindrance for me but that a long story
It what suits the trainee that is best & we are all different & respond to different things
you learn more watching someone else do iy right/wrong, so i’d recomend 2 -1. and its usually cheaper!!
I did 1-1. Day and half training then test and passed first time
i was 1 to 1,to be fair i didnt really want to sit in cab watching somebody else drive around, you tend to lose the will,i did on me class 2 1 hr drive for me and 1 hr drive for him,got boring, but class 1 was just 1 to 1,

HAHA Tell the truth mark it was my bad driving spured you on lol
Personaly i found 2-1 good as we were both at the same stage my co learner was mark (logic) and i say the same as him realy we were learning off each others driving and we both passed so cant be all that bad realy.
