08 plate Scania 420 opticruise

Hi All,

Dont know if any one can help but we recently bought a 08 plate Scania 420 opticruise tractor unit, this is the 1st auto we have and quite frankly it is gutless in comparison to the manuals. The truck is an ex focus group truck and wondered if anyone had heard of them being put on “economy” mode as the kick done doesnt work and neither does hill mode.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes you can programme the kick down mode via lap top “scania” . not to work. econ mode no not really. what does it rev to will it rev smoothly up to and around 1900+rpm, does it seem to boost " turbo spooling up" there is a gauage on the diagnostic/info on the steering wheel see what its boosting at on the flat and pulling etc. could be down to the turbo boost sensor?? bot working correctly this is located on the n/side on the air induction on the block 2 x 10mm bolts hold it in pop it out “carefully” and make sure its not carbon/oiled up to much, but check first the dash gauge for the boost

Cheers, thanks for the info.

Try driving it in Manual High (MH).

I drove my 420 opti for 3 years in MH, during which it constantly returned .5mpg better that the rest of the depot not the least down to it being in the correct gear at junctions, something the box isn’t capable of in auto.
Pulling away from rest in straight A is the definition of frustration, and frightening on busy junctions.

By the way, the reason for MH and not M is faster gearchanges.

H on the stick is basically for “Hill climb” it will hold gears longer and change slightly quicker and it will change each gear instead of block changing gears in H also it should rev slightly higher in H mode
