Any one any opinions on the above lorry. Its a manual 6*2 globetrotter. no knowledge of Volvos at all but scanias seem too over priced
Had some 08 480’s couldnt fault them on fuel
After that the 500
The euro 5 460 crap on fuel
480 euro 4 or 500 euro 5 all day long
And im a scania man at heart but these beat r480 hands down on fuel
I get good fuel from euro5 460

My 500 compRed to mates 460 every week average is 1-1-8mpg better
1 mog now =£7000 year
My 11 plate and 63 plate euro 5 460’s are about 2% better than either a euro 3 480 or a euro 5 480 doing the same work
Euro 5 did 500 and 460 not 480
Euro 4 480 and 520 they dropped 20hp

I think you’ll find that FH, (not FH12 though), up to 2008 offered 400?, 440, 480, and 520, the facelift trucks 08 onwards went up 20bhp so 420, 460, 500, 540.
The reason I know this is because I really should get out more. 
And I used to drive an 07 euro 5 440, I now drive an 07 euro5 520.
there’s an issue with the exhaust bunging up, i don’t know how common it is, but not cheap to fix

that last bit should be euro 3 460.
Always use top quality oil and v power diesel and you will have no trouble and excellent fuel economy. 
Same as anything can get good or bad one
Make sure gear selection is nice and smooth been a manual the cables if abused stretch and exspensive I was told quite a few hundred quid. And the oblivious as with any motor. Go through the engine diagnostics on screen can suffer with abs faults.
Night heaters can sometimes be a ball ache or its just ones I have had
Cracked sun visors
Tend to leak oil around bellhousing
Good quality oils changed often
The 13litres are good lumps the 16s can be troublesome
Having put many to some very hard wearing work I wouldn’t hesitate in buying one
Between scania and Volvo I wouldn’t be put of either both good work horses just scania will hold money bit more due to scene tax and glory boys
