Spoke to George this morning, after the now usual difficulty of getting the phone answered, and he sounds in fine fettle.
There has been a slight hitch in his being signed up to the dongle as they seemed confused as to how to reconcile his domicile as a hospice. Don't you just love jobsworths.
However, they have promised to ring him back on Monday and hopefully will have a solution. If they insist on delivering it to his flat one of the nurses has volunteered to go and fetch it.
So, just a few days delay.
Due to the difficulty of getting him on the phone these days we have agreed that he will email me as soon as he gets online. At that point I will notify you, Pat, in order to get the bank transfer under way.
Salut, David.

That's absolutely fine spardo, we were just wondering how it was going.
I'm here almost all of the time at the moment, working from home so we can do the transfer straight away.

I would like to thank all of you for the donations we've received from you, and remind you to let us know if you know of anyone needing help of any kind.
We have learned just how proud lorry drivers are and how much they are prepared to struggle on alone, sooner than ask.
You can contact me discreetly on the phone number or email above and I will be tactful in any approach.
Or if anyone is reading this don't be proud, the PDF was formed just for this purpose.

A big thankyou to those who were prepared to chip in and help George, it's restored my faith in the old camaraderie we used to share so many years ago.

Just got this email from George so, as my dinner is about ready, I'll just paste it in for you all to read:

Hi David
The dongle arrived today and it is up and working all beit spasmodic with the signal dropping every now and then. Thankyou for the printouts and the picture, I was pleased to see all the comments people had left please pass on my thanks to them all and I will post when my head is clearer.
They have upped my medication and I find I am asleep most of the time or wondering where I am etc. I am writing this before my next lot of pills and injection so I can see what I am writting.
I am getting tired now so I will write again soon
Love toyou and Fran
George

Really good news, I know you'll agree.
Over to you Pat.  :D

First of all I would like to thank you all for this wonderful gift which allows me to keep in touch with the outside world and a special thanks to David and Pat who made it all come together, yes Pat Biggus would have.
I am out of the main pain which was getting unbearable thanks to the cocktail of drugs they give me 3 times a day but the breakthrough pain still occurs. My pelvis has multiple fractures and there are no good bone area's to pin too so it has to be left alone, my hip are also damaged again the bone area is too diseased for any treatment. The tumour is now the size of a small melon and is the main reason for the fractures in the pelvis as it grows it is pushing out the bone and something has to give. The hospice is so friendly as are all the staff and they wheel me outside for a ciggy with an umbreller for when it snows. I am getting tired now so I will post again soon, once again thanks to you all, I am forever in your debt.
Safe journey
George

Great to see you posting here, George.

Glad it all came together (well done Pat & Spardo). As Pat said, too many of us don't ask if/when we need something but if there's anything else we can help with, just ask!!

I'm glad you're back online George,

I must say hearing your voice and how much more comfortable you were on ChristmasDay warmed the cockles of my heart.I was so glad you got to spend the day pain free and in comfort (after the amount of pain you were going through before) and that you had company and wern't on your own in the flat.

After posting this I'm gonna send you an email (assuming you still use the same address) with some photo's of the wedding and a general update on things

I spoke to George again this morning.
He sounds very tired and his speech somewhat slurred and a little difficult to follow, perhaps because of all the drugs which are keeping his pain at bay, perhaps that he is simply very tired.
He told me that it took him half an hour just to type out the email he wrote last Monday so I hope, indeed I'm sure, that everyone will excuse his infrequent messages.
I'm sure he'll be chuffed to get the pics Sean, he does read everything and is in fact really pleased at getting his online access back.
On a bright note, his friend Sheila has improved somewhat in her own health and will be visiting tomorrow. She will be a real tonic for him.
Salut, David.

Hello everyone,
I will give a quick update as I am in between drugs and I am feeling quite awake at the moment which is quite rare. My latest reading was 712 which is not good they have just put a new driver on me wich should help with the background pain but will make me a bit out of it. The one thing that keeps me going is the beautiful nurses I have looking after me, they are great and very caring. Sorry getting tired now so I must go thaanks to youall for the wonderful gift and all the offers that people made, it shows that there is still alot of genuine people out there and my friends have grown to include youall

Good bye and my best to yyouall
Safe journey

dont wait until its too late ihad a sore back ,just below my ribs for about 3weeks in sept2009 .i had been given a new volvo fm13 440 unit, and thought it was the new seating position that was causing it. i went to doc and he had a look, took blood sample etc.week later was told in hospital i had pancreatic cancer.things got worse in the next month .am now on chemo,(bloody awful at times),but at least am getting better.its going to be a long haul, but i,ll get there. there are warning signs lads, dont ignore them cheers auldyin54

Welcome to TN Auldy, sorry to hear about your illness but at least you seem to have caught it early.
I had my blood test yesterday and the good news is my PSA is down to 0.66 from 1.03 last time. That's good I think. :D
George was in good form Sunday, Sheila is managing to visit each week at the moment.

Crossed here too Auldy. :)

Spoke to George this morning as usual, but had to track him down to the Nursing Home to where he was suddenly transferred on Friday.
This is good news we think as they were talking of this a month or two ago because he wasn't as serious as the others at the hospice. Then they changed their minds after telling him the outlook was in fact bleaker. Now this latest change and he certainly sounded very cheerful this morning. He loves the place and he loves the staff and they have told him he will be there for about 2 months.......................not bad considering they only gave him 2 or 3 weeks last week.
Best of all he is only a mile away from Sheila and she is well enough to visit at the moment. Also this home specialises in MS so she will have plenty of backup if she takes a turn for the worse when visiting.
He suspected that the mobile phone signal wasn't good there though which would mean that his dongle wouldn't work, but hasn't had time to set up yet so didn't know. Afterwards I checked 3g for coverage in his postcode and it showed ok. He'll send me an email when he gets the chance if that's true.
Salut, David.

Yes, if he gets a signal I'm sure he will although even operating a keyboard is tiring for him.
BTW, I mentioned to him my PSA of 0.6 and he asked 'guess what mine is' . You can imagine my astonishment after guessing at 4 when he said 'over 700'.
And no, he assures me he didn't get the decimal point in the wrong place.

hiya,
Thank you David, nice to kept informed about George, his writings some time ago were very inspirational to me, i was lucky and got in there quickly and am doing well with no return of the horrible illness, George is correct, speed is of the essence when the "C" thing rears it's ugly head and that's immaterial of what type or whatever the location, as George says get checked out it will make all the difference.
