150 trucks to go from Manston to Dover for Brexit test

Anyone been asked to join?

Up to 150 lorries to be sent from Manston Airport to Dover during Monday’s rush hour in last minute test to see if Britain is ready for a no deal Brexit

Monday’s test will see up to 150 lorries sent down the A256 at 8am and 11am
The exercise is designed to check plans for using Manston as a huge lorry park
Officials need to work out how fast to release lorries using ‘Operation Brock’
Contingency plan is intended to be used if Dover-Calais route seizes up in March
A no deal Brexit could cause miles of tailbacks on both sides of the Channel port

Hauliers that have voiced concerns to the Government about Brexit have been ordered to sign disclosures to not go public, so I am guessing these motors will be from these fleets.

Is it April 1st already ?

Having read the article, if they wanted 150 trucks, why didn’t they just implement operation broken for the Monday, then just let em go, be more real world, than using specially chosen companies.

I do know somebody who’s taking part, he called me last week to see if the company I work for had been asked. It seems to be something organised through the FTA, which the company he works for are members of and we’re not, as well as the Police and Kent County council.

If they are hiring trucks for the exercise would it e fair to guess they are getting £600 or more for day work/hire to do this. Or is it hire trucks and agency drivers.

The original TV article on the routing to and from Manston was filmed in one of the rigid DAFs run by the company that I used to work for .
It will be fun on monday as a couple of the parts of the route are single carriageway and also has multiple roundabouts along the route .

you just know this is going to be fully stage managed, so nothing can go wrong, and then they can say it works, lets implement it, then when its used in real world, with 100+ European drivers it will go ■■■■ up, with them going were ever they like, flat to the mat.

Or fully stage managed to prove that it’ll fail and we should have a second vote etc. Either way it’ll be a balls up.

1000+ drivers in RDC waiting rooms will claim to have been one of these drivers. I give it a month until I’m sat next to one.

Very good, and true.

I agree, but it’s hardly a claim to fame

“Yeah, I sat on an airfield for the morning”

Sounds thrilling to me :unamused:

So first Monday back to work after the new year and they stick an extra 150 trucks on the road to completely screw up the traffic to and from Dover, sounds like a plan to me!!! :unamused:

Dont worry, it’ll all go wrong as they’ll have chosen a route which some sat navs don’t agree with so you’ll get lorries spreading out all across the area.

Might be a good test of which brand of sat nav is best and whether truck ones are better. God help any of them with live traffic turned on as they might get redirected via Portsmouth.

Are there any low bridges for the ones being sent to Dover by a car sat nav or Google maps?

More project fear anti Brexit Propaganda, In ccase you didn’t already know that when we leave the EUSSR (WTO deal) like 17.4 million voted for over 2 years ago we will continue to trade as we currently do for upto 10 years it’s all there in the rules , not ■■■■■■■■ like these scare stories

Why only ‘up to 150 trucks’ when up to 10,000 use Dover every day ■■? what’s that going to find …

I was thinking about that too.
But 150 may be a fair figure for a single ferry? P.O. Burgundy takes 180 trucks apparently.
When some export trucks are being held in Manston because the French ports are blocked with trucks awaiting import clearance, and UK imports are being diverted to inland clearance points as there is insufficient parking in Dover and Folkestone, Manston will start to look quite small…
As you say 10,000 trucks an hour is just Dover isn’t it? Shuttle has done nearly 4,000 a day so 12,000 a day seems reasonable average. Given there’s humps and dips in traffic flow, 150 trucks as a one off, seems a ridiculously small number?
Politics says you do a test of something that’s difficult to get wrong.

Guess it’s a good idea on a way to practice etc.

But a wet damp Monday just after Xmas. Every driver knows what’s Gona happen . All be English not under pressure etc. Fully briefed and informed

Compare that to a warmer sunny time run up to Easter getaway. Drivers unsure what to expect under pressure etc
There can only be 1 outcome.

Personally I think brexit will be like the year 2000. We’re all.doomed planes will fall out the sky the world will end.it came nothing happened.
Same as brexit day will come nothing much will change ok might be more checks paperwork involved but won’t be dooms day like people keep saying.

We`ve heard similar before.
Pre 2K it was said, that there could be bugs in the systems, which if left untended could cause serious problems. Glitches were looked for and fixed, hence no catastrophes.
Some newspapers more interested in sales than accuracy, may have reported it as you suggest.

Brexit (good/bad/whatever) could happen in a smooth efficient manner if correctly managed. Is that what we’re seeing?
