Worked with Mark back in 2004/5 at the big green parcel machine in Royton. He taught me how to drive the A Frame Wagon and drags.
Absolutely shocked when I saw his name in the paper, and charged with Murder.
Never had him down as the sort of person who would end up in this situation, but I don’t know what the circumstances of the Incident are, but sympathies to the late Gentleman’s relatives.
What is more bizarre to me about this is the deceased was an Uncle to a mate of one of my friends.
Just because he’s been charged and gone to magistrates doesn’t mean he’s guilty, could be wrong place wrong time.

A police spokesman said: "Mr Allen, who had been driving a red Citroen Berlingo along the road at the time of the incident, died as a result of injuries sustained after being struck by a HGV in the carriageway.
Mark Slater, aged 46, of Hillside Avenue in Oldham will next appear at Chester Crown Court on Wednesday 19th of February.
Sounds like a moment of red mist resulting in two families lives being changed forever.
I think he also worked for AJ Fisher Transport based in Oldham.

He did , yes
Unusual that its murder and not manslaughter.

I still think it’s a bit forward to assume guilt before the man has had his chance in court.
After a preliminary hearing at Chester Crown Court on Thursday the 27th of February he was remanded in custody and will next appear in court on the 16th of May ahead of a predicted one week trial starting on the 21st of July.

I would agree with that, there is obviously something more to the story.
Innocent until proven guilty.
Pat Hasler:
Innocent until proven guilty.
What that man said.
If only that we’re true. These days, in this country, with this press, I think it’s a nice notion & that’s all. Let’s hear the full story & see if justice is served.

Yes but due to legal restrictions on court reporting can not add any other information at this time.
Me and my Dad ran with Mark before he was arrested.
The fella in the car was having a roadrage battle with Mark for a few miles down the 57, they were cutting each other up and jumping on the brakes, the usual when someone ■■■■■■ you off on the road. The car driver cut Mark up at a roundabout and they both got out having a shout at each other, Mark got back into his CF and put it on full lock to go around the car and the fella jumped infront of his wagon and he ended up flattening him because he didn’t see him jump out infront of him.
It would’ve been manslaughter but I think because of the argument the coppers saw it as ‘murder’
And that is why you should never get out your truck, just a quick moment of red mist can dramatically change your life forever (as it will with both drivers in this case)
It’s not always easy to keep your cool but a car will always have a speed and maneuverability advantage over a truck. Just pull over for 30 seconds and get a barrier of other traffic between you and any agressor/idiot.
Its not worth dieing or rotting in jail for £10ph.

I did once, pulled over in layby for a few minutes, pulled off thinking he disappeared into the distance, but he hadn’t,waited up road in layby,we then continued the games until the traffic light where we both got out,I just hit him, left him picking himself up in road, never saw him again, never heard any more.
Some just won’t leave it,as he wouldn’t,your left with no other option than to hit them,I’d just had enough.

Who was Mark working for Hammy ?
Pat Hasler:
Innocent until proven guilty.
Says Pat who recently implied an old acquaintance of his was responsible for a historic unsolved murder at Widnes truckstop.
