listed a car on shiply, it needs to be moved from Suffolk to Scotland, well i recieved a number of bids and noticed that some of the service providers seemed a bit iffy to say the least, as they were offering to move the car on vehicles in excess of 3.5 ton and as it is hire and reward i asked if i were to accept there bid would they be prepared to furnish me with there o-licence number so i could ensure it was being transported within the law, well the response i received from one guy called Grasshopper was unbelievable. i have tried to upload the link but it wont let me. but his response is well worth a look before the comments are deleted by Shiply.

Its listed as a Saab convertible from Ipswich to Aberdeen and is on page 5 at the moment. This guy is Cowboy with the Stetson Boots Spurs the works.

have i got this right, you list a car on a site that has bidders undercutting each other to get the job for the lowest possible price and you are suprised there are some dodgy operators?
dont blame you for wanting the thing moved for a keen price but i would not expect to find a quality operator bidding for jobs on this sort of site!

Lol Moose its supposed to be a reputible site. His comment are well worth a look is what i was saying, how he explains his view on operator licencing.

As already stated to operate for hire and reward a current operators licence must be in force if the vehicle is over 3.5 ton. I am not a Policeman or Vosa inspector. Or a Smart Alec as you put it. But it does seem that you are useing vehiles in excess of 3.5 tons without the relevent licences to do so. If as you say you have all this experience then you would know recovery law is different from hire aand reward. If it offends you that i wish to ensure my vehicle is transported legaly then that says a lot about your operation, does it not. Grasshopper. I am a bit confused as to your response. But from it and your own admission that you do not require an operators licence is a bit worrying. 1/ you offered to transport my car on your 7.5 ton Mercedes with a spec lift. The law states that if you use a vehicle in excess of 3.5 ton for hire and reward then a current operators licence must be in force. Your comment that the o-licence you have is to run vehicles in Europe is Rather a strange one. To clarify for a 7.5 ton vehicle you would require a National o-licence, to operate on international work you would requre both a National/International o-licence. National licences are a Blue disc, international discs are blue. The question that arises here to me as the customer is…If you were stopped be Vosa would you say you were recovering the vehicle which is untrue, or would you say you were delivering it for hire and reward which is the truth. They would then impound the vehicle as no o-licence is in force. If thi happened it would cause me problems in getting my vehicle back and added costs. Regards Rob.Report

i’d love to know why your saying this mr own account driver, because someone wants the job done right they’re a nob head?? if it were my car i’d probably want the same as in the event of an insurance claim, insurance companies can find alsorts of reasons not to pay up, believe me i know from experience!!

Is the car a runner? If so why not get the train and drive it home?

TBH I think your quite right to ensure you are using a correctly licensed and legal operator!

TBH if he WAS genuine then why not give you the O licence number?? he has nothing to loose by it! although i think its quite clear by his tone that he’s illegal AND he knows it!
