4 , I would have been watching the Zb’ing great loco go by
Looking at the final resting place I’d say the Merc driver has had a look seen the back of the loco and carried on assuming it had passed the crossing. Shoddy British engineering not fitting reversing lights to show it was moving backwards.
It’s obviously the engine’s fault. The sign clearly says “keep crossing clear”.
