I knew this would all end in tears,

More than 1,000 lorry drivers have been left owing large sums of tax after claims the accounting company (Read: Umbrella Company) they used disappeared with the money.

Not once BTW. 3 or 4 times by the sound of it.

I’m struggling to understand how this continues to be allowed to happen? Both the RHA and HMRC are crystal clear on self employed drivers. Unless you have an O license and your own motor(s), you can’t be a self employed driver. Or that’s what they say here at least>> Myth-busting on lorry driver employment tax

If that is the case how do agencies and companies still get away with advertising for self employed drivers?

In the name of protecting the driver should the government step in with an outright ban on companies advertising for drivers under these terms? Back in the day it was PAYE or nothing?

A much simpler concept.

Already a thread on it = viewtopic.php?f=2&t=150326

It will keep happening as there’s two many who think they can beat the taxman.
If they realy was bright enough to do that they wouldn’t be driving a lorry.

Lets not act that this way of working and getting paid only applies to truck drivers.

It probably effects millions of people.
