2004 Volvo FM I-Shift Power Mode

Hi,
I have a FM with I-shift that is a 4x2 prime mover, being so light when empty it tries to skip too many gears, when going up a hill from a starting still it goes 3rd then 7th and almost stalls then goes back to 4th. Is a real pain in the ass to drive.

If you push the E/P button and the P comes up on the dash and it drives perfect, but it only lasts for about 5min then goes back to E

Is there anyway to make it stay in P or atleast make it stay in P until the truck is turned off?
Cheers,
Nick

Use less right foot, just touch the loud pedal and let the electronics do the rest, alternatively use M mode, (manual)

Using ‘Power mode’ when empty will annoy the boss

If you think a 2004 Volvo ishift is crap try a similar age auto from any other manufacturer

This ^.

Unless it’s broken you’re planting your foot to the floor when pulling away which theoretically would give you enough speed so that 7th is the next appropriate gear. A lighter touch on the pedal will probably put you in 6th after 4th or, if you’re loaded, probably 5th. Volvo I-shift is renowned for wanting to change you up and put your revs down in the hundreds at any given opportunity though - particularly annoying when you’re pulling out of a tight junction on a slight incline with a fully loaded trailer as they have a bad habit of changing up a gear whilst the trailer tyres are still scrubbing in the turn, thus bringing you to an abrupt halt in the middle of the road until it changes back down again.

There are a good box but you have to drive them how it wants you to drive, rather than how you want to drive it to get the best out of them. Alternatively there’s M mode as griffin says above.

Thanks for the replies guys, well I am the boss and I don’t mind
This truck does at most 5,000km a year so the little bit extra fuel it uses doesn’t worry me.
If you put it in P mode should it stay in it or is it suppose to go back to E in a few minutes?
It’s going to the mechanic next week for a check up as I think it takes twice as long to change gears as our other I-shift which is in an identical truck.

Anyone ever had one changing slowly?

All the ones…

I drove revert back to A after P. It’s a default setting designed for fuel economy.

Bung the grease monkeys at Volvo a fiver see if they can overide it. It’s just digits in a chip somewhere.
