Thelwall mystery..or is it

oldthel.jpg

While watching the 60’s film A Taste of Honey on TV recently there was a scene featuring the Manchester ship canal with the thelwall viaduct clearly seen in the background and you can see vehicles crossing, the thing is the film was released in 1961 but the viaduct didnt open until 1963! Is this a mystery or what.
Any ideas?
Steve.

The motorway in the distance is Barton Bridge which opened in October 1960.
Known then as the M63 it is now a section of the M60 Ring Road with the Trafford Centre on the South bank
Here’s a shot of it under construction in 1959.

Ha,
I forgot all about that, even though I’ve been over it lots of times.
I should have done a bit of reading up on it before posting.
Steve.

Taste of Honey is set in Salford, Thelwall is Warrington. The photo from the film is on the footbridge that goes over the Bridgewater Canal at the Trafford end of Barton aqueduct.

Is that the footbridge we used to get to Eccles for a pint when parked in the old Fifth Wheel cafe
