Leicester's Bygone's

Remember when going scotch (if from the south), or going down to the smoke (if from the north), was long distance?
When Middle East work was readily available?.
When driving a 111 or F89 meant you were truly the king of the road?
Recall those companies long gone, where every day was an adventure?

What ever happened to those drivers you spent hours with.. where did they go? and recollect on those characters in the industry sadly no longer with us.
This forum is for us all to indulge in a little nostalgia and remember with rose coloured glasses how much better it was in the olden days

These mirrors were Zanneties, Two part type, The inside one was for the outside view and visaversa for the inside, I liked them we had some on some our wagons, We used to tie a duster to them and it kept them clean when travelling, Regards Larry.

Very posh Larry! I had 6/7 ERFs all with the long oblong mirror , don't recall having to rag em up though. Not the best but massive improvement on the 5 X 3 s cheers Coomsey

Brilliant mirrors, still got mine in the shed. Bought 'em myself and transferred them wherever I went. Do you think I like mirrors?

BTW, as a heavy from Leicester, this pic qualifies for 2 threads.

No dusters, banned by Tom Llewellyn on pain of death. Surprised he let me keep those 3 big letters on the grill. :o

Cossington commercials Gainsboro brings back memories used to have an ERF 54G kitted out as a mobile stores used to call once a week chap called Ken drove it knew most of the part numbers off by heart. Sometimes if you were struggling he would jump down the pit and give you a hand, can't imagine that now.

So did I, once camped out with mine outside a cemetary near Inverness, the police knocked on the door at midnight and told me of some digs where I could get a proper bed just down the road. I refused, with thanks, and, with a last look at the comfortable bed across the seats and bonnet, and the cosy colour matched curtains around a proper rail, he wished me goodnight and departed. :D

Never got to drive one! Much sleeping in cabs , the most challenging was the Octopus 2 with the sloping bonnet. Cheers Coomsey
