John it became my favourite port to ship in and out of the first time being 74 or 75 not sure ,but you soon got to know everyone concerned , Truckline staff, all the agents , all the customs officers, all the dockers , and all the drivers from the same companies using it all the time. Then the start of Atkins , Axminster, Cadwalader, Swains, all having offices and trucks in Cherbourg. 2 pubs at the end of the road in Poole. Great times and great memories. It would have been the same for you and your drivers in Southampton with Townsen Thoresen and the Viking ferries.

A real family feel to it years ago. That changed when the borders came down,then every time you shipped out there would be a new company and drivers doing Spain and Portugal for the first time. I am just pleased that we had great mates and great times back in the day.

Looks good Dean , I just didn't like them at all, spoilt with three F88 and the 2800 DAF both good motors in there day.
I must say the Boss loved those Leyland's, to be fair they came at the end of my time with Peter as I left in 1986. Had a few job's in the next 4 years couldn't settle anywhere really . Then bought my own truck in 1990 which I did for another 15 years.

Never got to Chard,Avonmouth was as close as I got,when in Danzas.
All good lads in the other 4 depots though.Coleshill could be a tight bugger of a spot if I recall.

Our old boss really took a liking for those Leyland's and they obviously served him well. In the earlier day's he had tried Volvo, DAF, Scania , Renault, but in the end he wanted to buy British.
