That’s poor to say the least,.and especially for the areas the jobs are based. :open_mouth:
However, this is how this job has evolved and been eradicated to a state of utter crapness over the years that I’ve done it at least, , and on top of that, this is how it’s going to be now, especially when jobs are lost due to the effects of all this Covid crap, and oh yeh, nobody is going to get a pay raise this year,. :bulb: (with maybe the exception of the Union present firms, but that’s another story.)

It’s just another classic example of the UK’s govt actions of the past coming into fruition. :bulb:
(Just go with me on this for a minute, and apologies for me coming over all Carryfast and Winseer esque.  )

Picture this…Maggie Thatch in a cabinet meeting 1980 82 ish, working out her strategies to keep us working class plebs ‘‘in our place’’…after daring to take her and The Establishment on

''Here’s the plan gentlemen, …sell these working class oiks their Council houses cheap, so they can re sell them to get on the housing ladder.

Increase house prices gradually over the years to a ridiculous level (bearing no resemblance to the true value) so they obtain commitment mortgages…dont worry it will benefit us by increasing our own upper class assets by millions not thousands so all good gentlemen.

So that way, the results will be like this gentlemen.
It will go a long way to eradicate industrial action and strikes by disgruntled workers, as they are financially committed, so no stomach for a fight…, oh yeah and we’ll throw in the mix a lot of Anti Union propaganda, especially in schools, using the likes of Scargill and Red Robbo (Google him) as good examples, so the working classes will repeat it all and turn against their own kind…in other words gents…
Divide and conquer, job done. :sunglasses:

Also as a by product of my plan, we then we get all workers rights fought for by past generations just handed back in the next 20 years, and new millennium, in favour of zero hours contracts, no extra for overtime rate, and general oppression of working people by unscrupulous micro managers…ie employees readily and willingly accept any old crap, all workers rights going, poor wages job done.
Who at the back said it won’t happen, as the working class have balls and backbone, just trust me on this…it will.

‘Now, what were you saying about the Argies and the Falklands?’’

Here endeth Rob’s UK Social History lesson for the day. :sunglasses: thanks for your time, and enjoy your Sunday in the pub…oh hang on a minute. :unamused:
Get applying for that 9 quid an hour before somebody else gets it.

At least they are paying an hourly rate however poor it is . Seven are paying a day rate that equates to £8 ph on a 15 hour day which most are due to split rests. even with attendance and meal allowance it’s £8.22 . £600 + £25 attendance + £5 a day meal allowance plus night out . And you will max you hours

one hundred percent true rob,
Driving trucks in the future will be on a par with a s… house cleaner,
and the old adage of drivers are there own enemies will finally bear the fruits …

She then unfurled a hanging map of Europe, pointed to an approximately vertical blue line and said “This, gentlemen, is the River Oder. On the far side of this waterway live millions of people who would think all their Christmases had come at once if they could earn £100 a week. As part of the plan, we are going to get this army of cheap third-world labour to move westward. I will start the ball rolling, and am already grooming my protégé and successor Tony to be the primary architect of the plan”.

Thanks Rob(thedog), I was considering applying for that, just wondering if the commute was going to be a bit much.
And to you Rob(roy), your encouragement makes the commute pale into insignificance.

Star down under.:

Slight problem with your recollection of history is the fact that the vast majority of the house price increases over the last 40 years has been from 1997-2008 under Labour thanks to Labour’s policy of not bothering to put in place any limits on lending which allowed people to borrow hundreds of thousands of pounds with zero proof of income, borrow up to 125% of the price of their house. From 1997-2008 house prices increased fourfold in my street. From 2010 onwards they’ve risen just a few percent.

^^^ that’s 'cos of the drug dealers and crackheads. You’re welcome.

Comparing property in different areas is tough. Your area might have gone up a few percent in a decade whereas my street has gone up by 50% in that same period all due to external factors such as the upgrade of the West Coast mainline making us a viable commuter location.

Agree with Rob though I think pay rises are going to be thin on the ground so both the NMW and NLW are closing in other jobs…

Conor:

Mine’s shot…

Through the roof during that period.

Well, funny someone should mention proper unionised jobs and this year’s annual pay rise :sunglasses:  …cue the all unions are crap because someone doesn’t like the union big cheese.

Bound to be some jobs requiring graft or a bit mucky or specialised or even shift work in the areas mentioned, no one’s being forced at gunpoint to work for those rates bar maybe new starters or those who won’t do anything other than chauffering the wagon about.

I expect many tramping jobs are being filled by EE lads who might well be house sharing where spending all week in a cab is more peaceful and private than they would be getting in their multi occupancy rental, those must be distorting the supply and demand situation, not as i’m blaming the EE lads, it’s our govts of the past 40+ years to blame right back to that bleedin Heath, all have had their hands in and reasons for undermining (betraying) the native working classes.

Not wishing to sound all gloaty and ■■■■■ (are they even words) the union I belong to last year negotiated a 10% pay rise over two years. We got 5% last year, and yup, we’re getting 5% this coming January.

■■■■■■

Yes, gloaty no.

Here to help.
