Cabin Air Filters

OK I’ve done what I intended which was make you aware of the problem. As I said the majority of you are protected with cabin air filters. 95 % of vehicles on the road have them fitted. If you don’t think they serve a purpose by all means take them out and bin them.

The level of pollution inside a vehicle is higher than outside. That is a fact. It has been known for years. Manufactures spend millions on research to improve the quality of air in your cabs. It is a mistake to call the filters just" Pollen filters". The technology is improving all the time. They now can stop 98% of pollutants exiting the air vents into your lungs.

Yes you can drive with the window open , when you are moving , to improve air quality. Come the winter when you are nice and cosy with the windows closed and the heater blowing stuck in the Blackwell Tunnel most of you are breathing filtered air. My colleagues and I are inhaling the unfiltered exhaust from the vehicle in front. A cabin air filter stops that happening.

I think it’s reasonable to ask my employer of nine years if I can fit the filter recommended by Mercedes to help protect my health. My ex employer considers it reasonable to ask me to drive a vehicle which my specialist respiratory consultant says will damage my health if a filter is not fitted.

As someone suggested I have taken this up with my MP and things looked promising. A question was asked of the Transport Minister…then they called an election and everything is on hold.

I’m close to retiring having covered over three million miles in the UK and more overseas. I’ll do what I can to make people aware of the problem that truck drivers have no legal protection from this behaviour of putting profit above health. That’s the same corporate attitude which looks like the poor sods in North Kensington have fallen victim to.

I appreciate the time you have taken to comment even if it was just to take the ■■■■■ Sorry if I came across a bit touchy. Keep safe. I’m gone.
